Growth and maintenance of the district facilities. A no tax increase will be on the April 7 ballot. Use of demographic projections to plan construction and renovation timelines that align with growth.
Retention of current staff as well as recruitment of new staff.
This can be accomplished with competitive compensation strategy, no salary incentives (professional development, mentoring, leadership programs, and advancement opportunities)
Student safety is within the structure of the buildings as well as technology and personal safety. AI is everywhere and the best way to make students safe is to embrace it; not ban it. The district has school based therapists and works closely with Compass Health to provide resources for social and emotional health resources. Resources are throughout the district to provide additional supports. These officers are building relationships with students as well as protection servvices.
I am running continue my service as a school board member and advocate for students, staff, and families in the Belton School District.
My qualifications are:
25 years as a classroom teacher in Belton schools.
Advanced degrees in education.
Current experience as an incumbent board member since 2020.
Participation in education governance and community leadership.
I have been recognized over the years by students and local groups for my classroom work, indicating an ongoing connection with students and families in the district. I still volunteer and mentor in many of those programs.
My goal would be to manage resources carefully, seek new opportunities, and involve the community while keeping student learning and staff support at the center of every budget decision. I would advocate to protect direct student supports (teachers, instructional materials, safety, and essential services) before considering reductions elsewhere. Budget decisions should reflect what most impacts student success.
Additionally, I would advocate to pursue alternate funding through local as well as state and federal grants and community partnerships,
Families help build habits that schools depend on: consistent attendance, reading at home, time management, and a positive attitude toward education.
I believe that communication is important, but I believe collaboration is key to giving each student the best educational experience possible.
Families need to be welcomed, respected, and included.
Belton has a stellar early childhood program and we need to continue and enrich what we are doing. Early screening, parent supports and resources are strengths.
