My recent appointment to the board has fueled my desire to continue serving. I've learned a lot in a short amount of time, and believe it is important to be involved. Prior to retirement, I wasn’t sure if I had the time to dedicate to a position on the board. Our voices are important and people need to feel heard. In this role, I am committed to serving the residents of our village.
Residents in our community expect fiscal transparency and responsibility. They want our trustees to act in their best interest. As individuals, each resident has concerns that they want to be able to honestly share with board members. A trustee should be available to listen, understand complex issues, and make decisions that benefit the village.
The essential skills for a village trustee align with my background as a public school educator. I have patience, strong empathy for others, the ability to listen, and a genuine desire to do my best every day. I have always been a problem solver that works diligently for positive outcomes. The ability to set aside a personal agenda is important when serving others.
As a small village in the Heart of the Valley, Combined Locks has a lot to be proud of. There is a strong feeling of community that connects residents. A continued focus on the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan will be necessary to maintain our remarkable green space. We also need to evaluate land usage and development to promote the best utilization of residential and commercial properties.
