I served as a leader in the military for 20 years, providing strategic counsel to General Officers and Commanders on national security concerns and planning. My responsibilities included facilitating communications for President Bush during international engagements while stationed in the European Theater. Following my retirement from military service, I joined the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I contributed to the advancement of initiatives focused on Veteran care. I later transitioned to the Department of Treasury and led cybersecurity efforts to safeguard the nation’s financial data, overseeing a budget of $26 million. Additionally, I have dedicated three decades to youth mentorship.
Pressing issues facing the next session of the Texas Legislature are affordability, public school funding, and healthcare. As we look ahead, it is imperative that lawmakers prioritize measures to make everyday necessities more attainable, bolster the resources and support available to educators and students, and expand healthcare coverage for families throughout the state. By focusing on these core areas, the Legislature can help create a more stable and prosperous future for all Texans, ensuring that essential services remain accessible and fostering opportunities for continued growth and security.
Emphasis on maintaining affordability in daily life is essential. Efforts should be directed toward reducing healthcare expenses, increasing access to affordable housing, and addressing inflationary pressures. Advocate for the interests of working families. Promote equitable compensation and meaningful opportunities for individuals across Texas. Promote the development of robust public schools by enhancing educational infrastructure, investing in teacher professional growth, and broadening access to job training and apprenticeship programs.
Texas counties are facing diminishing water supplies amid increasing contamination incidents and data center overuse. The Texas Water Development Board has highlighted critical requirements for aquifer protection, enhanced drought resilience, and improvements to wastewater infrastructure. I will push for legislative measures to address illegal dumping, groundwater theft, and unreported spills through enforcement actions. In addition, funding will support rainwater collection initiatives, rural pipeline repairs, and the development of climate-resilient water systems, all implemented through public works contracts that uphold wage standards and prioritize local employment.
Establish TexCare Public Option - A significant number of Texans have incomes that exceed Medicaid eligibility but are unable to afford private insurance. The proposed TexCare public health option will be available to individuals earning less than $50,000 annually, as well as to households meeting this threshold per adult member. Funding for TexCare will be sourced by reallocating current state healthcare contracts, eliminating excessive billing practices, and streamlining administrative expenses associated with intermediaries. Enrollment in the program will not incur any penalties, and its implementation will not require additional taxation.
