I am a lifelong Will County resident. I retired from the Will County Sheriff's Department, where I worked as a Dispatcher for over 20 years and then as a Classification Specialist at the Adult Detention Facility until I retired. I was the first female President of my Union, AFSCME Local 1028, serving in that position for over a decade. I am currently on the Executive Board of AFSCME Retirees Subchapter 73. I was elected to the County Board in November 2022. I served as Democratic Whip, and currently serve as Democratic Leader. I have served on several Committees, and presently serve on the Executive Committee. My vision is to promote environmental, economic and social sustainability to ensure the best quality of life for the residents.
As a Will County resident, retired Will County employee, Union Representative for Will County employees, and current County Board Member, I understand the needs of the working people of Will County. During my term as County Board Member, I have worked with other elected officials and with residents to address these needs. I have negotiated Union contracts, and worked on and passed budgets that strive to keep taxes as low as possible, while providing much needed services for Will County residents. My knowledge, skills and experience are qualifications that are useful in the position of County Board Member.
Like so many other places, the County is experiencing a lack of affordable housing. This issue can be addressed by working with other government agencies and private companies to attract developers to build housing that residents can afford.
Will County is home to the largest inland port in the nation, and this brings with it the problem of truck traffic and the damage to the roads that is caused by the trucks. Addressing the damage could be done by taxing trucks of certain weights that travel on local roads, and using the funds to repair the roads that have been damaged by the trucks.
I am opposed to the deployment of federal immigration enforcement personnel in the manner in which it is being done. The methods currently being used by ICE are unacceptable. I believe that the current immigration system needs to be overhauled, and a new system put in place. Legislation should be passed to ensure that those who are not citizens receive due process pursuant to the Constitution, and there needs to be a faster path to citizenship.
The message of my campaign is people before politics. The people ae my priority. In my first term as County Board Member, I have worked and fought for the people I represent, and if re-elected, I will continue to do so.
