I’m a lifelong Illinoisan and North Side Chicago resident with a BA from Loyola Chicago and an MPP from DePaul. My career spans public service and advocacy: policy analyst at Chicago’s Department of Family and Support Services, project manager in Planning helping implement the city’s COVID-19 recovery plan, campaign manager for Congresswoman Marie Newman, senior regional organizer with Indivisible across Illinois and Indiana, and founder of the Chicago Salon Club. I’m running for State Senate to bring a new generation of pragmatic progressive leadership that listens first, challenges the status quo, and delivers real results for the 6th District.
My top three priorities are: (1) Affordable housing and cost of living: crack down on corporate landlord price gouging, build more affordable and multi-family housing, and reform property tax assessments so middle-class families aren’t blindsided by spikes. (2) Modern transportation and infrastructure: improve CTA/Metra/Pace coordination, secure funding for more reliable bus and train service, and expand protected bike lanes and pedestrian-safe streets. (3) Government reform: I take no corporate money and will fight pay-to-play politics, term limits, public campaign financing, and more accountability to community needs.
Illinois can be fiscally responsible and bold at the same time. My approach is data-driven: every dollar should deliver public value. We should invest in long-term returns like fully funding K-12 schools, expanding college access, transit, and green infrastructure because they strengthen our workforce and economy. We also need smarter spending through better coordination and oversight, streamlining overlapping services (including transit agencies), and closely reviewing contracts to prevent waste, fraud, and overspending. I also support a fairer, more sustainable tax system so big corporations and the wealthiest pay their share and working families are not left carrying the burden.
Illinois needs a forward-looking, integrated plan for climate resilience, transportation, and infrastructure. We should protect Lake Michigan, ban PFAS “forever chemicals,” accelerate clean energy, and upgrade water and energy systems for floods, heat waves, and other climate stressors, with expert and community input on land use, flood control, and emergency response. We also need stronger state investment in transit by improving CTA and Metra service frequency, maintaining equipment, exploring dedicated bus rapid transit lanes, and coordinating CTA/Metra/Pace into a seamless regional system. Infrastructure upgrades should prioritize sustainability, accessibility, safety, and future economic needs.
Public safety works best when we balance smart policing, justice reform, and strong community support. I support response models that pair police with mental health clinicians or send unarmed responders to mental health and substance use calls, so people get appropriate care and officers can focus on violent crime. I’ll push stronger police accountability and training, including de-escalation, bias training, community engagement, and collaboration with Police District Councils. I’ll also invest in violence interruption, youth mentorship, after-school programs, mental health and addiction treatment, job training, and common-sense gun safety, while treating gun violence as a public health crisis.
