A focus on equality of opportunity and academic excellence ensures that all students can pursue further education and career development. Every student deserves educational opportunities that reflect high standards, focus on fundamental skills, and career and technical education skills. Further, students with unique needs deserve the appropriate support that allow them to access the educational system according to their needs. Our schools reflect our communities and by partnering closely with parents and community members, we can ensure a just educational experience.
I have and will continue to advocate for safe, secure schools and appropriate mental health supports for students. Parents are our first partners in that process and play an integral role in identifying needs of students and connecting them with resources within the community. The Regional Office connects our districts to resource and share expertise and access to responsive practices and policies for students. Students’ mental health needs cannot be ignored as those needs often become barriers to student learning. The Regional Office of Education supports students and their families during difficult times through coordination of alternative learning environments, resources for school safety and prevention, and truancy support.
