McLean County Board, District 5, Illinois
I am running for re-election in District 5 on the McLean County Board. For the last year and a half I have been a member of the board, and have an understanding of the workings of McLean County and what is important to this community and my constituents. I have lived and worked in McLean County for nearly 30 yrs. I support unions, immigration, green energy, and continue to move McLean County forward.
Affordable Housing, Access to health care and mental health care, Job Growth, Tax Levies.
McLean County, much like the rest of the nation, is in need of affordable housing. At the county level, I voted to support the new Bridge Community for the unhoused, provided small living units and access to resources to help unhoused individuals become housed. I would like to also get all communities within McLean County together to come up with solutions that would benefit everyone. We are loosing precious tax revenue as people will work in this county but live outside of the county because of lack of housing. If we increase housing, we could increase tax levies to better invest in the infrastructure of the county.

Tax levies - increasing taxes have a detrimental effect on all aspects of life and the economy. Contributes to lower disposable income, which in turn leaves people with less money for housing and buying goods and services from businesses to fuel job growth.
Affordable housing - inflation hurt the new housing industry from the cost of materials, labor costs and higher interest rates. Rents have soared due to similar reasons - increased property taxes, maintenance and utility cost increases, and interest rates.
Job Growth - create an economic climate that encourages existing businesses to expand, entrepreneurs to start new businesses, and for other businesses to relocate. This does not occur if the level of disposal income is shrinking.
The primary mission is protecting taxpayers by making sure the County is operating financially efficient, has strong risk management, timely financial reporting, and an appropriate audit function. We have to do better as a county in controlling taxes and fees, which continue to increase. Taxes diminish disposable income, which directly affects affordability, housing, daily living, and job growth. Fees are similar and act as a deterrent to new and small businesses. Taxes are a primary reason people and businesses have been leaving Illinois and continue to do so. That needs to stop. People have found other states are more tax and business friendly resulting is higher disposable income, abundant job growth, and growing economies.
