race Sheriff - McLean County
As Sheriff, I will ensure the Sheriff’s Office maintains the high professional standards our community expects and deserves. Transparency and accountability begin with clear expectations and consistent follow-through. We will continue to recognize positive conduct by acknowledging deputies when feedback reflects professional and respectful interactions with the public and within the organization. We will also hold members accountable when standards are not met, ensuring fairness, consistency, and integrity. I will maintain strong partnerships with community leaders and prioritize open, honest communication to build trust and strengthen public confidence.
As Sheriff, I share a commitment to a collaborative, problem-solving, and data-informed approach consistent with the McLean County Behavioral Health Action Plan. Through partnerships with community advocates and the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, we will work to reduce recidivism and connect individuals to appropriate services whenever possible. While law enforcement action will be taken when necessary, we must also redirect individuals to behavioral health or social service interventions when appropriate. I support continued training beyond state mandates, including CIT and de-escalation, and will work with partners to expand referral options, internships, and effective jail practices.
Strong working relationships are built on open, honest, and consistent communication. We must listen to community concerns, recognize successes, and identify areas for improvement. The Sheriff’s Office has a strong relationship with McLean County residents, and I will continue to build on that foundation. As Sheriff, I will remain accessible to community groups, service organizations, and partner agencies to ensure ongoing dialogue. When issues arise, I will ensure a transparent review of our processes, clearly communicate findings, and take corrective action when necessary to maintain public trust.
Effective recruiting begins with retention, and one cannot succeed without the other. Law enforcement is both rewarding and challenging, requiring agencies to be proactive and adaptable in attracting and retaining qualified personnel. While fair compensation matters, retention goes beyond pay and includes schedules, benefits, equipment, training, and specialty assignments, balanced with operational needs. Our Office maintains high standards in selection, training, and equipment to ensure safety and effectiveness. Our people are our greatest resource, and as Sheriff, I will prioritize supporting them, investing in development, and fostering a culture that values excellence, wellness, and long-term service.
