Biography I’m a 16-year Chesapeake resident, mom of two sons in Chesapeake Public Schools, and a proud Navy wife. Professionally, I serve as an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Health Sciences program at Old Dominion University and am nationally certified as a health education and health literacy specialist. I chair Chesapeake’s Commission on Health and Well-being and advocate for maternal health through policy, education, and awareness. With experience in healthcare, education, and community service, I’m running for School Board to put that passion to work for our students, teachers, and schools by listening to our community and turning voices into action.
One of the greatest challenges we face is supporting and retaining our teachers. Chesapeake educators are highly qualified professionals, yet too often they feel unheard, overworked, and undervalued. When planning time is consumed by meetings, when classrooms lack consistent support staff, and when salaries don’t reflect the cost of living, teacher morale suffers. If elected, I will fight to give teachers the respect, resources, and voice they deserve. I will work to implement teacher forums and listening sessions, as well as advocate for improvements like protected planning time and retention bonuses. When we support our educators, we keep great teachers in classrooms and ensure our students thrive.
I am the best candidate because I bring a unique combination of professional expertise, lived experience, and community involvement. As an educator and professor, I understand the challenges teachers face and the importance of supporting and retaining them. As a mom of two sons who have attended Chesapeake Public Schools and a Navy wife, I know firsthand the value of strong schools for families. Through my leadership on Chesapeake’s Commission on Health and Well-being, I’ve proven my commitment to service. I will listen, collaborate, and work tirelessly to ensure our students and teachers succeed.
What I love most about Chesapeake is that even though we’re one of the largest cities in Virginia, it still feels like a small town because of the strong sense of community. Our schools are the heart of that connection, bringing families together. Neighbors also come together through civic leagues, interest groups, and local events, making it feel connected and welcoming. There’s always something to do, from local parks, shops, restaurants, and events here in Chesapeake to enjoying our location in the heart of Hampton Roads with quick access to beaches, concert venues, and museums. Chesapeake truly offers the best of both worlds.
