We are fortunate to have current feedback including concerns from the community collected as a part of our strategic planning process completed recently. We chose the Impact Group as our partner to lead the process. They spent months working in our community facilitating meetings and conducting interviews with a cross section of people who have an interest in our schools. The concerns that were raised and our plan to address those concerns make up the core of our Strategic Plan. The five areas of focus are, Communication, Student Engagement & Participation, Student Academic Achievement, Optimize Facilities & Operations, and Community Partnerships. Our commitment as a board along with our administrators and staff is to use the strategic plan as a resource to guide our decisions going forward and to measure our progress toward meeting the objectives we are committed to. The ongoing debate within our state legislature concerning changes in public school funding is another issue that will impact all public schools. The recent shift of taxpayer funds being moved away from public schools and made available in the form of vouchers for private schools represents an imbalance to the funding process especially in places like Wayne County where 93% of the school age students go to public schools. I have and will continue to contact state legislators to advocate for public schools especially the public schools in rural communities like ours.
I have been actively involved in the Orrville community for many years. I have served on the Orrville City Schools Board of Education for the past 20 years. I have a background in business management and retired 2022 after more than 43 years working with small and large companies in the lumber, pallet and crating industries. I enjoy being involved in our church, Heartland Education Community, and a number of other groups and organizations. I prefer to focus my time working in our community where I believe I can make a positive difference.
I chose to run for reelection because I have a keen interest in, and I am excited for the future of our schools. This is a challenging time for public schools, and I believe the leadership in our district is working in preparation to meet those challenges. We have introduced our new strategic plan. We have an experienced group of administrators who are committed to a process that embodies a continuous improvement approach to everything we do. We share a vision and plan for the future of our schools that is focused on doing what is best for our students.
I am not hard to find; I am active in the community and available to listen to the questions and concerns of members of our community most anytime. I can be contacted by email through the school website or by phone. I encourage people with questions to work within the system to get accurate information and answers to their questions. I am happy to facilitate that process when needed.
