PLAIN TOWNSHIP TRUSTEE
According to the ORC, there shall be three elected trustees for a four-year term. The trustees have the legislative authority in the township. Under township responsibilities, the trustees oversee the care and maintenance of the township roads, fire and police protection, cemeteries, parks and recreation, zoning and waste disposal. Other responsibilities, in a condensed summary, are to preserve order during elections, conduct bi-monthly meetings, provide public notices of meetings and special meetings, make resolutions relative to the township business, provide for the general welfare of the township, and maintain records of all township business and activities.Key Responsibilities of a Township Trustee:Legislative and Executive Powers: The trustees collectively serve as the legislative and executive branch of the township, meaning they make decisions and implement policies for community matters.Road Maintenance: They are responsible for the care and maintenance of township roads, which includes tasks like snow removal and weed control.Public Safety: Trustees oversee public safety services, which can include the operation of fire and police departments, or contracting with neighboring jurisdictions for these services.Cemetery Management: They are responsible for the maintenance, management, and expansion of township cemeteries.Zoning and Land Use: Trustees make decisions related to township zoning and land use to manage development and preserve community character.Community Well-being: They are tasked with providing and improving various community services and infrastructure, such as parks and recreational facilities.Fiscal Oversight: While the Fiscal Officer handles detailed financial matters, trustees adopt the annual budget, approve expenses, and make decisions related to the allocation of township funds.Public Notices and Meetings: Trustees are responsible for conducting public meetings, providing public notices of those meetings, and maintaining records of all township business.Community Development: They work to meet the needs of residents and foster community growth and development within the township.
