Aldine ISD,Board of Trustee Position 4

The Aldine Independent School district (AISD) board of trustees is aisd’s governing body. Duties include establishing aisd policy and goals, monitoring success,adopting a budget and setting a tax rate, and appointing the school superintendent. Board members are elected at-large by all voters in aisd for staggered 4-year terms with no term limits and serve without pay.

I am running for our kids, the future generation of leaders, like myself a product of Aldine. I want to ensure campus safety and a healthy environment for learning. I am an advocate for teachers and staff and I want to oversee the financial responsibility and transparency of the budget. I will be the voice for parents, guardians, grandparents, and families and strengthen community engagement.

When my son was in elementary, I served as the Vice President for the Aldine ISD Council of PTAs. I also served on the 2023 Bond committee.
I feel the three most pressing issues are a decline in student population, bus transportation, and vouchers. I plan to meet with my fellow board members and administration to gather the data for student population to understand what is effecting the decline. I would establish communication with the transportation department to understand the current operational status, bring in partner agencies to discuss resources (such as Harris County, Management Districts), and open up dialogue with parents. The vouchers significantly impact funding and student population together. I would ensure that our state officials understand how this effects public education and continue to have communication with them.
As the Deputy Executive Director for East Aldine Management District, I oversee a 14million dollar budget that provides services, programs, and projects and I ensure that the budget is maintained while servicing the needs of the community. My experience in serving as the secretary and president on the American Business Women's Association has strengthened my strategic decision and policy making by ensuring members were involved in the process. I understand effective listening and communication of constituents help bridge gaps to any challenges when there are changes.
I would propose that we look at alternative incentives and look at our outside resources. Then, we can dive deeper into the budget to see if there could be funding allocated. First, alternative would be to ensure that we tell the story of Aldine ISD. It is powerful to know that it is entering its 90th year and going strong. Highlight former teachers/staff, possibly students who became teachers/staff, bus drivers, custodial, maintenance workers. I would also like to hear from the teachers/staff. Second, would be to work with local businesses that provide small to large incentives. Also, working with partner agencies. Lastly, as the responsibility of the board, I would be transparent with the budget.
