It is vital that we continue working on solving the flooding issues in town. Working with our engineers and grant writers, we have laid the groundwork to make a comprehensive plan for mitigation. We were in the process of final approval before a large grant was cancelled. Using that existing framework, we will continue our work to fund this project.
Two very important traits in a mayor are being a good listener and having an abundance of patience. I feel that I am very attentive to my constituents. I take the time to fully understand their issue and work with them to solve the problem. My professional background is Market Research. As a researcher and trained focus group moderator, my preparation has taught me breakdown issues to the root cause. Once the root is known you can find ways to solve the problem.
Using the strength of our community members and committees, we can target areas in town to tackle issues and to give clear direction to our professionals. As a strong proponent of public engagement, I would follow up public meetings with surveys and focus groups. All data gathered will be shared with the public and will aid our efforts to secure grants.
Our team worked hard for Highlands to meet its 4th round obligation this year. We are committed to continuing to ensure all new development meets its rental or owner-occupied obligations. We also ensure all new developments under the threshold and additions pay into our affordable housing trust fund for future projects.
