With more than 17 years of experience in public service, I look forward to continuing that service as a member of the SWL School Board. I am active in the community as a coach/referee coordinator for the Pataskala Parks and Recreation soccer program, a member of the West Licking YMCA Advisory Board
As a school board member, I will bring effective communication, accountability, integrity, compassion, teamwork, and transparency to every decision I make. In my professional role with the State, I am tasked with ensuring that policies are communicated to the public in a way that is understandable, accessible, and written in plain language. That same approach—clear, open, and honest communication—will guide me in serving the families and staff of Southwest Licking School District.
Supporting Educators - I believe as a Board we need to ensure that our teachers and staff are empowered to teach by making sure our staff know that they are supported by not only the SWL board but the district administration as well by fostering a culture of trust and autonomy.
Transparency - As a board member I will not be afraid to ask "why" and ensure that decisions are not rubber-stamped; I will make sure that the items are discussed openly in public during board meetings.
Protecting Public Education - As a SWL Board member, I will champion public education by pursuing equitable funding, helping to support and create inspiring learning environments, empowering educators, and building partnerships that bring our community together for the success of every student.
By the end of my term, I want to ensure that our school district has a strong foundation that is built on collaboration, transparency, and respect. Supporting our schools means supporting every member of our community—students, teachers, staff, and families—because when they succeed, our entire district succeeds. Our students deserve nothing less than excellence, and that requires thoughtful leadership, accountability, and a willingness. My goal is to help create an environment where every child can feel safe, supported, and inspired to achieve their dreams, while also ensuring that teachers and staff have the tools they need to continue making a difference. This is not just about today—it is about building a strong foundation for the future of our community.

The role of a school board member is to serve as a representative of the community and to ensure the all students remain the focus of every decision. Board members set policy, oversee district operations through the superintendent, and ensure accountability with transparency. Board members are responsible for balancing fiscal responsibility with providing high-quality education to students.
I am the best person to fill this role because I bring more than 20 years experiences in public education as a teacher, building administrator and district administrator, while currently working in higher education. I understand the parent, teacher, and administrator perspectives and am committed to asking thoughtful questions, listening to the community, and making informed decisions. I am not afraid to be an independent voice when needed and will always put students first while fostering trust and collaboration in our community.
1. Student Achievement and Learning Recovery - It is important to remember that achievement (not just test scores) should reflect access to high0quality education, intervention, and enrichment to ensure that all students reach their full potential.
2. Transparency and Communication - Building trust by keeping families and the community informed and engaged in district decisions, policies and priorities.
3. Responsible Growth and Resource Allocation - Managing enrollment growth, staffing, and funding changes responsibility to maintain strong academic programs, and safe, supportive learning environments.
By the end of my term, I want our district to be known for two things: open communication and consistently strong student outcomes. Families and community members should feel informed, included and confident in district decisions. Students should have access to high-quality instruction, supportive programs, and opportunities that prepare them for future success. My goal is for our community to look back and see that we strengthened trust, improved transparency, and kept students at the center of every decision.
Public schools are different because they serve every child, regardless of background, income, or beliefs. Unlike the alternatives mentioned, public schools are accountable to the community and governed by an elected board. Public schools bring together children from diverse experiences fostering shared community values. Services beyond academics are also provided by public schools, such as counseling meals, and extra-curricular activities that support the whole child. There is a responsibility in public schools to prepare all students for future success, whatever that means - college or career, while remaining transparent and accountable to taxpayers.

It has been an honor to serve on the Board of Education for the past eight years, and I remain deeply committed to continuing that service. I care deeply about our district and view my role on the board as a meaningful way to give back to the community. I believe that education is a cornerstone of a strong society—foundational to preparing future generations to contribute as thoughtful, informed citizens. Every decision I make as a board member is guided by that belief. I am committed to putting students first, while also respecting the expertise of our educators and valuing the input of our community. I will continue to lead with that balanced perspective, always focused on what is best for the success and well-being of all students in our district.
As a candidate for the school board, I believe it's critical to focus on the most pressing issues that directly affect the quality of education, equity, and overall well-being of our students and staff. Based on community conversations, district data, and firsthand observations, I believe the top three challenges facing our district are: 1. Rapid Enrollment Growth 2. Fair and Sustainable State Funding, and 3. Student Mental Health and Well Being.
Southwest Licking School District is facing enormous growth in enrollment with the development of many parcels of land within our school district boundaries. It would be paramount to the students and community of this district to have, by the end of my term, passed a Bond that would expand instructional space at Watkins Memorial High School, and provision for building a new building that would relive the impending overcrowding at Watkins Intermediate and Wakins Middle School and provide enough space for the very far future.
Southwest Licking Local School District is more than buildings—it’s a connected, thriving community. Of our 59 new hires, 8 are Watkins grads and 18 live in the district, choosing to raise their families here. Warrior Pride is a culture of care, commitment, and tradition, with generations returning as teachers, mentors, and leaders. SWLSD serves all students through college credit, career pathways via C-TEC, and early exposure to real-world skills. From preschool to graduation, we prepare students academically, socially, and emotionally for life beyond school.

As a local school board member, my role is to serve as a voice for our community, foster strong partnerships between the district and parents, and ensure our resources are managed responsibly to support student success. I am the best person to fill this role because I have devoted my career to education and bring eight years of steady experience as a board member. This experience has given me a deep understanding of district operations, student needs, and the importance of collaboration with families and staff. I am committed to thoughtful decision-making, transparency, and advocating for programs and policies that help all students thrive. My dedication, perspective, and proven track record equip me to continue serving our community effectively.
The top three issues in our district are managing tremendous growth, addressing state funding shortfalls, and meeting the needs of our diverse student population. Our growth has been rapid, and while I have been working to prepare the district, we must ensure we have the facilities and resources to serve all families effectively. State funding continues to fall short, shifting a greater burden onto local taxpayers and limiting our ability to provide programs and support. Finally, our increasing number of ELL students and students with special needs requires that we provide every student with access to the educational opportunities and experiences they need. Coupled with the teacher shortage, it is essential that we remain fully staffed and equipped to serve these students and support their success
By the end of my term, I want to see a school district that can comfortably accommodate all students without overcrowding, while remaining fiscally responsible to our taxpayers. I envision a strong partnership between the district and the community, where collaboration benefits both families and students, ensuring that every child has the support and opportunities they need to succeed. I want our schools to be fully staffed and well-planned for the future, so that every classroom has highly qualified, dedicated teachers. Most importantly, I want to see our district continue to shine academically, building on our successes and improving our state report card rating beyond four stars. By focusing on sustainable growth, strong community partnerships, excellent staffing, and high academic standards, we can ensure our students thrive today and are well-prepared for tomorrow.
What is distinctive about our public school system is that it is a high-quality, locally funded system supported by taxpayers in Pataskala, Etna, Harrison Township, and Fairfield Counties. These are OUR schools, not a for-profit organization or a religious institution, and our community has control through the elected school board. As your representative, I listen and bring your voice to the table. Public schools are accountable to the community, focused on continuous improvement, and committed to providing strong educational programs for every student.
