School board members are locally elected officials who serve as the governing body of a public school district. They are responsible for establishing policies, adopting the district’s budget, approving curriculum, and hiring and evaluating the superintendent and treasurer. School board members represent the community’s interests in public education and make decisions that shape the direction and quality of local schools.Source: Ohio Revised Code §§ 3311.05, 3313.06–3313.33

The role of the school board is to guide and support the administration and staff. I have served for six years on the Granville Education Foundation board, several years on the World Class Education Committee, and recently joined the Finance Committee. Each experience has allowed me to work closely alongside the district administration, so I feel I am well positioned to take the next step and serve in this role.
The top three issues I see in public education in our district are student population growth via land development, lack of diversity in tax funding (commercial vs residential), and state funding being unpredictable and ever diminishing. We have a funding issue and an impending growth issue. The combination of the two could bring great changes to the district in the next decade.
I would like to see more commercial business within our district boundaries to assist in local burden of taxes. Otherwise, nothing. Having two daughters in high school and a 4-year old, my goal as a school board member is to ensure that my youngest is able to have the same academic experience as my older daughters have. Even if there is significant growth in the school district population over the next 14 years, my goal is that students still receive a wonderful education and are prepared for whatever next step they may choose after graduation.
The supportive community we have here in Granville is what sets us apart. When we moved to the district in 2016, my husband and I had been considering private schools for our kids. We quickly realized that the curriculum, wide array of courses offered, and staff at Granville were superior to local private schools. Once here, we found that the families are what make Granville so special. Families here care that their children receive a great education so they lean in time and time again. From volunteering in classrooms to help with parties and projects, to organizing fundraisers, to working concession stands at sporting or arts events, to braiding hair on Friday nights for the marching band—families are always there. It has been a wonderful experience for my family and I hope to maintain that same quality experience for future Blue Aces.
