Work experience/qualifications (60 words) Mike’s diverse experience—from owning and operating a family-owned snow plowing business and pioneering regenerative agriculture to running a boutique design & build firm and serving on the Monroe Township Board of Zoning Appeals—gives him unique insight into development, zoning, and farming issues.
Monroe Township is experiencing significant pressures from commercial development, which brings both economic opportunity and infrastructure challenges. Increased traffic, strain on utilities, and the need for road improvements affect residents’ daily lives. To address this, I will advocate for careful planning that balances growth with maintaining infrastructure capacity, ensuring developments contribute fairly to community costs, and prioritizing investments that protect residents’ quality of life.
My experience serving on the Monroe Township Board of Zoning Appeals has given me firsthand knowledge of how local government functions and how zoning decisions impact both development and agricultural land use. I’ve also owned and operated small businesses which taught me how to manage budgets, negotiate contracts, and serve community needs. In addition, my family and I practice regenerative agriculture, giving me a deep appreciation for rural land stewardship. These combined experiences have prepared me to make balanced, informed decisions that support smart growth while protecting the rural character of our community.
I will increase informed citizen engagement by utilizing direct communication channels such as social media and the Monroe Township website. This includes consistently posting accurate meeting agendas and minutes in a timely manner—which has not been implemented in the past—so residents have reliable, year-round access to important township information.
I agree that agricultural land and green space are important issues of concern in Monroe Township. As development pressure increases, it’s critical that we preserve the rural character of our community while planning responsibly for growth.
The main improvement I hope to achieve is greater efficiency and transparency in township government. By actively preparing for meetings in advance, I will help keep discussions focused and decisions well-informed. I plan to enhance public access to information, foster inclusive collaboration with the City of Johnstown and neighboring townships, and ensure responsible use of township funding and taxpayer dollars.
