Experience
I am an attorney and was elected in 2019 to represent District I on the Houston Community College Board of Trustees, where I’ve served in key leadership roles.
Occupation
Attorney
I am running for reelection to the Houston City College Board of Trustees because I believe in the power of education to transform lives. As the daughter of first generation college graduates and a mom of three, I know firsthand how access to affordable, high-quality education opens doors of opportunity. Since being elected in 2019, I have served as Vice Chair of the Board, Chair of the Governance Committee, and Chair of the Audit Committee, where I worked to ensure accountability, transparency, and responsible use of taxpayer dollars. With more than 20 years of experience as an attorney and a background in public service, including expanding voting access as Director of Compliance for the Harris County Clerk’s Office, I bring the skills, leadership, and commitment needed to keep HCC strong. I am running for reelection so that HCC can continue to serve as a bridge to opportunity for all students, preparing them for good jobs and a brighter future.
My vision for Houston City College is to be the bridge to opportunity in the 21st century, to prepare students not only for transfer to four-year universities, but also for the high-demand careers that fuel Houston’s economy. HCC must remain affordable and accessible, serving students of every background with the training, support, and resources they need to succeed. The Board of Trustees must ensure strong oversight of taxpayer dollars, prioritize educational access, and strengthen partnerships with local industries so that programs align with workforce needs. We must also invest in innovation by expanding online and hybrid learning and supporting faculty excellence. By focusing on accountability, affordability, and relevance to the real-world economy, HCC can remain a national leader in community college education and ensure every student has the tools to achieve their goals.
As a Trustee, I have and will continue to work collaboratively with the community members, families, and industry leaders to support today’s students and future generations. I believe in building strong partnerships with local employers to expand academic and technical training programs that prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow while strengthening Houston’s economy. I will also work to keep education accessible and affordable by supporting financial aid, innovative programs, and wraparound services that help students stay on track to graduate. Collaboration is essential, and I will continue to listen, engage, and advocate to ensure that HCC provides every student with the tools they need to succeed.
