Mayors oversee implementation of the laws and assume the role of “Chief Conservator of the Peace.” They recommend measures to City Council, and depending on local law, may have veto power over legislation. They prepare and submit reports to the city council, including financial reports. The mayor acts as the City’s official and ceremonial head, representing the city at public events and ceremonies.
