I grew up in New Brighton and am now raising my family here with my husband and five kids. As a child and adolescent psychiatrist, medical director, and volunteer, I bring a unique perspective to the school board. In my first year, I supported a balanced budget and cell phone limits in high school to improve learning. I believe our job is to ensure every student graduates prepared for success—through strong foundations in reading and math, rigorous academics, innovative opportunities like PSEO and District 916, and access to counselors, activities, meals, and reliable transportation. I will continue to listen, ask tough questions, and advocate for students, staff, and families. I care and will continue to work hard for our district.
Ensure every student graduates prepared for success—whether in college, trade school, the workforce, or another path. This includes a strong foundation in reading/math and fostering a love of learning. Collaborate with teachers, regain trust, and help guide improvements in teaching and learning. Cuts should be made thoughtfully and be aligned with our priorities. We must protect classrooms, teachers, and student supports, while reducing nonessential spending and administrative overhead where possible. The board must lead by example; I support reviewing/reducing school board pay before asking staff/families to absorb cuts. A budget should reflect our values: putting students at at the center, supporting educators, and ensuring resources go to areas with the greatest impact on learning.
I believe every student deserves the tools and support to succeed, regardless of race or family income. Addressing disparities means raising achievement for all, not lowering expectations. That starts with strong foundations in reading and math, rigorous instruction, and innovative teaching. We must also ensure equal access to meals, transportation, mental health supports, and opportunities like PSEO and District 916 so every student can learn, grow, and thrive.
Teachers are at the heart of our schools, and their voices must guide our decisions. I believe in reducing red tape so they can focus on teaching, ensuring fair pay and resources, and creating opportunities for growth. Our educators do far more than teach—they mentor, coach, and support our kids every day. By listening to teachers and honoring their expertise, we strengthen our schools and build the trust needed to help every student succeed.
