Qualifications & Education
Mortuary Science and Funeral Service Degree; Criminal Justice Degree; Licensed Funeral Director; Licensed Embalmer; Current Expertise: Funeral Home/ Coroner Liaison and Post-Mortem Recovery Technician; Funeral Director; Embalmer; Prior Experience: Autopsy Technician
My expertise and qualification are demonstrated through my continuous dedication and passion of being in the postmortem industry. My qualification further include a Degree in Mortuary Science and Funeral Service along with a Degree in Criminal Justice. I am both a licensed and active Funeral Director as well as an Embalmer. I currently hold the title as a Funeral Home/ Coroner Liaison and Post-Mortem Recovery Technician, granting me the privileged to work with funeral homes and coroners across the state of Mississippi. I also possess past experiences of working in the Emergency Department at UMMC the only trauma 1 hospital in the state of Mississippi along with prior experience as an autopsy technician.
I have had the desire to become Hinds County Coroner for well over 20 years. I remember vividly sitting in my 4th grade class and the now retired coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart came in and spoke with our class telling us what she did as a coroner. At that moment I knew that I wanted to be the coroner of Hinds county. From that moment I began to mold my life to one day be blessed with the opportunity to be elected as Hinds County Coroner. From my post-secondary education decisions, to my career decisions, and even to my homeowning decision; I made sure that that those decision would be reflective of me one day seeking office to become the next hinds county coroner.
1. Coroners Don’t Just Deal With Crime:
Many people associate coroners only with murder investigations due to TV shows and movies. In reality, most deaths that are investigated are natural, accidental, or undetermined. The coroner's role is to determine the cause and manner of death, not necessarily to solve crimes.
2. Timeframes Are Not Always Quick:
The public often expects answers within hours or days but sometimes toxicology tests can take weeks. Some investigations may require collaboration with other agencies or labs. Families may not understand why the final autopsy report can take months.
