Training & Experience I bring 20+ years in marketing and communications, including 8 in higher education focused on communication, engagement, and crisis response. I’m a Leadership Portage County graduate, led the 2017 Waterloo Levy Committee (where “We Are Waterloo” was created), and served as president of the Public Relations Society of America, Akron Chapter. These experiences give me the skills to strengthen communication, build trust, and bring people together.
Volunteer & Community Service My service to the Waterloo Levy Committee and four years on the Public Relations Society of America, Akron Area Chapter board were both volunteer work, and in which I enjoyed serving my community.
Our district is facing challenges like mistrust between the community and the Board, leadership turnover, declining enrollment, low school spirit, and financial strains despite rising property taxes. If elected, I will work to rebuild trust through transparency and stronger communication — clearly explaining decisions and moving beyond just monthly meetings to create additional ways for the community to engage. I will actively involve parents, students, staff, and community members, serving as a bridge between the district and the public. My priorities are to put students first, foster school pride, improve educational opportunities, and balance the needs of the community while managing finances responsibly. With 20+ years in marketing, communications, and leadership, I have the experience to strengthen dialogue, build trust, and bring people together so our schools can provide the best education for our children — our future leaders.
I would be an effective school board member because of the professional experience and leadership skills I bring to the table. I understand the importance of timely, clear, and honest communication, as well as active listening and two-way dialogue. Not everyone can attend board meetings, and many may not fully understand the Board’s role, school funding, or how state-level decisions impact our schools. I want to ensure these conversations are happening openly and that information is shared clearly with the community. I also recognize that our primary responsibility is to our students. Students with higher school spirit tend to be more engaged, participate in extracurricular and community activities, and demonstrate greater confidence, happiness, and academic achievement. I want to make sure every decision supports their success while keeping the community informed and involved.
As a school board member, my responsibility in addressing emerging controversies is to listen carefully, gather accurate information, and act thoughtfully. It’s important to remain objective and focused on what’s best for students, rather than personal opinions or politics. I must communicate clearly and transparently with the community, provide a platform for dialogue, and work collaboratively with other board members and administrators to find solutions that uphold district policies and serve the needs of all students and stakeholders.

In short, a board member should respond responsibly, ensure decisions are fair and informed, and maintain trust between the Board, the district, and the community.
