I am a proponent of finding a better way to finance school districts other than through property tax. While on the board, we decided not to pursue the extension of a levy that was set to expire in 2024. I know of no other district that had the foresight to do this especially with the impending property tax increases that were scheduled in the county. Also, I have been directly involved in helping to secure signatures for the Ohio Constitutional Amendment to eliminate property tax as way of funding schools. Hopefully, this will be placed on the ballot sometime in 2026. Additionally, since being elected to the board in 2021, I have been a proponent of aggressively seeking grants. In the last four years the district has received over one million dollars in grant money through various agencies. I believe that by hiring a professional grant writer, this number could be significantly higher.
I am running for re-election. I believe that I have already proven that I can be an effective school board member. I have done this by questioning everything and anything that appears to be suspect when operating a school district. I have also spent time with various groups around the district listening to what their needs and concerns are for the district. I have and will continue to work with these groups in supporting what their visions are for the future of our students. I have spent time listening to the students of the district: to their concerns and observations. I will continue to work with other school board members to find solutions to problems that have and will face the district. I believe that it is important to be able to agree to disagree and then move forward. Open and honest communication is the key.
AI technology is going to be the most important and controversial issue in the next two to five years. We are currently dealing with AI In the very near future; maybe less than a year, we will be dealing with AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). It will be our responsibility to prepare our students to not only live with this new technology but to excel in its use. Furthermore, I believe that once we cross the threshold from AI to AGI, we will be just around the corner to ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence). Once we take that leap, everything in education is going to change. I would suggest a change immediately that could produce significant results as these things develop. In order to help students analyze the right and wrong ways to interpret the new technology, a mandatory course in critical thinking, at the high school level, should be implemented.
