The most important issue facing Deerfield Township is ensuring our emergency services are strong, well-equipped, and responsive to the needs of our residents. Our first responders are the backbone of community safety, and we owe it to every resident in Deerfield to make sure they have the support and resources they need. I propose working directly with our fire and EMS departments to identify their top priorities, pursue grants and outside funding to reduce costs for taxpayers, and foster stronger cooperation across agencies. By putting Deerfield first and working together, we can ensure every call for help is answered quickly, effectively, and with the highest level of care possible.
The major challenges facing our community are maintaining reliable emergency services, managing rising costs without overburdening taxpayers, and ensuring that residents feel connected and included in Township decisions. Emergency services are the foundation of public safety, and we must continue to secure outside funding to provide our first responders with the resources they need. At the same time, inflation and budget pressures make it essential to spend wisely, focusing on priorities that directly serve our residents. Strengthening partnerships with neighboring agencies for training, planning, and emergency response coordination will also help us improve service while keeping costs down. Finally, as our community grows and changes, we must keep people informed and engaged through open communication. By working together, we can overcome these challenges and keep Deerfield safe, affordable, and connected.
With today’s economy, families are already feeling the strain of higher costs, and our Township government must be especially careful with every dollar. My approach to managing potential budget cuts is to protect essential services first, especially emergency services, while making sure we spend wisely and avoid unnecessary expenses. Inflation has increased the cost of everything from fuel to equipment, so it’s more important than ever to pursue grants and outside funding to ease the burden on taxpayers. Wherever possible, we should also complete projects in-house instead of outsourcing, which saves money and makes use of the talent we already have on staff. I also believe in collaboration — working with neighboring agencies and community partners where it makes sense and benefits our residents — so we can deliver services more efficiently. By focusing on smart budgeting, in-house solutions, outside funding, and strong partnerships, we can weather economic challenges.

The most important issue facing not only our township but many other neighboring townships (a lot) around the area is staffing and financing the first responders for our fire protection and emergency medical transport. I feel with my 30+ years on the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter EMT-B I have a unique ability to be able to work with the department, fellow trustees and the citizens of Deerfield to come up the best plan to provide the best service while remaining financially responsible.
The major challenge is getting the community to trust in the board of trustees again. I will do this by bringing integrity and honesty back to the board and by stopping the drama. I will work together with fellow trustees so we all succeed. If we all succeed together the township will be a much better place.
I will approach potential budget cuts with a positive attitude in going line by line through the township financials looking for the best way to save money getting the most with as little as possible, and working with the heads of each department. I will use my experience working with the grant writers of the last fire department administration in which we were awarded $500,000.00 in grants.
