I am a three term member of Hilliard City Council. Take a moment and think about Hilliard, in the last 10 years, stopping developer giveaways which were negatively financially impacting our schools and EMS resources (Issue 9), Changing our local governance model to Council-Manager, and recently dedicating 1/2% income tax to Recreation and parks allowing for well. Hilliard is rockin'!
1) Our current comprehensive plan. It is solely based on the premise the land use must create additional tax revenue and not based on factors relating to better quality of life, etc. The entire process was a pre-determined outcome - To provide evidence, we are now undertaking a housing study to see what we need, yet we already created the plan and are now in the process of rezoning major areas of our community. Seems like we would want Housing study before the comprehensive plan?
2) Hilliard is not Columbus, but we are acting like we want to be - approving major density along the outer belt- and now investing millions in Old Hilliard to begin residential density in that area. When we do these things we are not necessarily being neighborly
While often in the minority while voting, clearly we have lost our way. Our most recent community survey's show a significant decline in our community being heard by their leaders. Many folks simply do not want the density being approved by our current leaders. A growing portion of our population is Muslim and they presented plan to improve an empty building (BMW); and they were quiet honestly, marginalized in the name of per acre tax revenue generation-. Council has eliminated the invocation before meetings, and through other recent actions ( Annexation requests and conditional uses by other religious organizations) shown a real hostility towards private education and become quiet secular. Government serves the people not vice versa-
Hilliard leads the region in development of various housing options. I would challenge the premise though regional populations will continue to rise at the levels expected. Immigration is a hot national topic and birth rates continue to decline. We, as a state, see continued migration and net population loss to the South and West. We do not serve Central Ohio, we serve Hilliard Ohio, and many of my peers are drinking the Cbus Kool-Aid. Just look at our school enrollment, it is projected to remain steady or even decline. What we do see is spot zoning like apartments being built on Dublin Road (Shires) in C-Bus; being done so without regard to neighbors. I will continue to fight that type of infill every day. We are not Columbus or Dublin.
Oh I get earful, often at Kroger, or a ball game. Moose lodge provides real good perspective too. Here is great example- Our old city manager was not even going to provide the most recent community survey we completed, and literally, was slow walking the data I had asked for, as the results had dropped precipitously. How do you explain this, it simple, the current leadership of Hilliard has a pre-determined way forward, creating reports and committees where they load up participants with their friends; which unsurprisingly, then creates reports to justify what they want. Just look - were in multi-million dollar federal litigation over what, a building which still to this day sit empty. --- and yet we ignore traffic concerns with densities
I simply tell the truth. I will be transparent, honest and I think this wins the day. I think elections also bring about changes. I feel pretty strongly Hilliard is generally headed in the right direction but our current leaders think they know better than those we serve. I see that hubris from time to time as I have served. I believe ultimately, the issues presented will bring about consensus. The debate is paramount to better outcomes. I really do not care whether I prevail in an debate as much as I do about the discussion in a transparent way. Others like to go behind closed doors and have it all wrapped up, simply voting without dialogue - I think we are a better community when we have those floor discussion in council chambers.

Qualifications for Office
I am in my 4th year of my 1st term in office, and am the current President of Hilliard City Council. I am a community volunteer with a focus on older adults. I am deeply committed to the people in Hilliard. I am honest, accountable, persistent and accessible.
The most current need is to balance revenue needs and housing needs. We understand there is a growing population in central Ohio and Hilliard is an attractive place for people to live. This means we need more housing, at different price points, to accommodate more people. It also means we need the revenue that comes from our businesses to balance the costs of housing. There is a lot of change and change can be difficult for some. It is our hope to mitigate the discomfort of change thru consistent back and forth communication with our residents.
Another continuing need is the needs of older adults in our city. We are making good progress, but there is still more work to be done and I will continue to focus time and energy in this area.
My 4 most important issues are providing services for older adults, housing options, smart/responsible growth and conservation strategies. Financing will need to come from various sources such as income tax revenue and grants.
Housing needs are a current focus. We are creating a housing committee to research and develop a housing plan for our diverse neighborhoods. Fortunately, we have an amazing Economic Development group that continues to bring new businesses into our city. The revenue we received from these businesses help fund all the work we do, including infrastructure.
This is trickier than it sounds and is something to which I am giving a lot of thought. It seems that weekly emails, website update and social media are still not enough to reach everyone and to keep people engaged. I am currently looking into more community events/gatherings as a way to disseminate information.
Getting people together to talk with each and reach consensus is the goal. Starting with individual meetings and small group discussions is a good start.

I was a teacher in Hilliard City Schools for 24 years, earned advanced degrees in education and leadership, and raised my family here. These experiences have given me a deep commitment to our community and the collaboration, problem-solving, and public service skills I’ll bring to City Council.
One of the most significant challenges facing Hilliard is managing growth. Families are drawn here for our excellent schools, parks, and amenities, but growth also brings challenges such as traffic, environmental concerns, and increased demand for services. As a City Council member, I will listen to residents, focus on community needs, and work to ensure development aligns with the Hilliard Comprehensive Community Plan. By supporting smart infrastructure investments and protecting our natural spaces, we can maintain Hilliard’s quality of life while planning for a sustainable future.
My priorities are smart, sustainable development and improving quality of life through parks, trails, and infrastructure. Guided by Hilliard’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan, we must create connected neighborhoods, close sidewalk gaps, and address traffic congestion. To finance these priorities, I support attracting companies that provide high-paying jobs, especially corporate and medical offices. This strengthens our tax base, allowing us to improve services and infrastructure without raising taxes, while creating a multiplier effect that enhances jobs, services, and Hilliard’s reputation as a destination community.
Central Ohio’s growth requires Hilliard to plan carefully for housing and infrastructure. We need to honor the Big Darby Accord to protect the natural resources that surround Hilliard, while using our city’s Comprehensive Plan to guide responsible development within our community. I believe we can welcome new residents and maintain the small-town charm that makes Hilliard special by investing in infrastructure that improves traffic flow and connectivity, and by supporting housing options for families, young professionals, and seniors. With proactive planning and community input, we can balance growth with preservation and keep Hilliard strong.
As a City Council member, I will be a transparent and responsive leader who actively listens to residents and engages with community stakeholders. I plan to attend neighborhood and civic events and maintain open lines of communication through email, social media, and in-person conversations. By seeking input from a wide range of voices and staying connected to the community’s needs, I can ensure that decisions reflect the priorities and concerns of Hilliard residents.
My approach to building consensus is to bring people to the table by identifying shared goals and common ground. I view disagreements as opportunities to hear diverse perspectives and foster understanding. I will listen actively, facilitate respectful dialogue, and encourage collaboration so that all voices contribute to solutions. By promoting transparency and mutual respect, I aim to find common ground that reflects the best interests of the entire Hilliard community.

I have a deep understanding of healthcare, regulations, and community well-being, which translates into skills in problem-solving, compliance and public safety. I served as a member of the Hilliard Recreation and Parks commission for 13 years. I am a current advisory board member at the Hilliard YMCA.
A significant challenge facing Hilliard resident is the increase in traffic congestion and the need for long-term infrastructure planning as Hilliard continues to attract new families and businesses. We need to plan wisely so the Hilliard remains a welcoming, affordable and charming place to live.
I want to see us ensure that new development is balanced with investments in roads, sidewalks, and parks. I will prioritize health and wellness initiatives and connectivity to all parts of Hilliard. I will prioritize funding for infrastructure and community services before new and nonessential projects.
I plan on prioritizing income based housing. I would like to partner with regional organizations, nonprofits, and businesses to share costs and bring outside resources into Hilliard.
I plan on meeting with residents in their neighborhood gatherings and having a forum where they feel heard before decisions are made.
I believe that having open conversations and putting our constituents best interest at a forefront will help us overcome barriers.
Occupation
Director of Public Affairs at Ohio Municipal League
Education
BA in Journalism and Political Science at The Ohio State University
Qualifications for Office
Experience in local government through the Ohio Municipal League and Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission on such issues as economic development, public safety, funding, transportation, land use, and sustainability. Chair of Hilliard’s Planning & Zoning Commission and involved in Hilliard Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Hilliard Ohio Historical Society, and Keep Hilliard Beautiful.
Residents are concerned about rising property taxes and their ability to stay in their homes. While the city collects only 1.60 inside mills (about 3% of revenue), council must ensure every service and project delivers strong value. We need steady commercial and industrial growth to balance the burden on residents. My six years on Planning & Zoning and career in municipal policy have shown me the importance of evaluating both today’s spending and tomorrow’s constraints so Hilliard can sustain high-quality services. We must also manage growth responsibly, protecting our identity while addressing density and traffic.
I’ll focus on core city services rather than new costly programs. My priorities are safe neighborhoods, strong community spaces, and reliable infrastructure where families can thrive. That includes supporting police and school resource officers, enhancing parks, trails, and recreation for all ages, and encouraging business growth that creates vibrant gathering places. I’ll take a fiscally responsible approach—ensuring tax dollars are spent wisely and transparently, relying on existing revenues, careful prioritization, and pursuing grant funding to support Hilliard’s long-term financial health.
With my experience at the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission working on infrastructure and housing, I understand how growth, sustainability, and development intersect. Hilliard must plan ahead by monitoring traffic, roads, and utilities while leveraging grants and financial tools to fund improvements and new development. On housing, I support preserving older neighborhoods, encouraging mixed-use and “missing middle” options, and balancing residential with commercial growth so infrastructure costs are covered. Through smart planning, we can provide an array of housing choices, protect property rights, and maintain Hilliard’s community character.
I’m a collaborative, easy-going leader who stays present in the community to hear diverse perspectives and treat everyone with fairness. In my career, I’ve worked to gather public input on transportation, development, and other issues, and I regularly engage with people across the political spectrum. On council, I’ll continue seeking input, being transparent in decisions, and serving as a reliable source of information. I want residents to feel welcome meeting with council and staff so we can build understanding and make decisions in Hilliard’s long-term best interest.
I have been complimented on how I’ve handled the concerns of others while serving as chair of the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission. I believe consensus is built by listening first, understanding where people are coming from, and finding common ground even when viewpoints differ. I value hearing perspectives different from my own because it helps shape better solutions. On city council, I’ll continue to approach disagreements with respect, transparency, and fairness—focusing on facts, long-term impacts, and open dialogue to ensure every stakeholder feels heard and included.

My family has called Hilliard Home for the last 26 years. I served 12 years on the Hilliard School Board, was President of the Board in 2010, 2013 and 2017, Vice President in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2014. I have served on Hilliard City Council since 2017 serving as Council President in 2020 and 2022. I am a member of the Hilliard Chamber of Commerce and a member of Hilliard Rotary.
Everyone recognizes that residential property taxes are a significant burden on our community members. In Hilliard property taxes fund our excellent schools and our outstanding fire department. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do at the city level to provide relief for high taxes. One thing we can do is continue to work to increase our commercial tax base to help offset the burden of our residents. We need to continue our efforts to retain our current businesses and attract good quality new commercial growth that provides a variety of jobs for our community.
Hilliard is a great community to live, work and raise a family. We need to work to expand opportunities for all residents with vibrant Parks and connected trail systems. I would advocate for continued high quality development in our downtown to provide opportunities for our community to connect through shopping, dining and a constant flow of unique events. I would promote strategic Commercial Development to reduce the tax burden on our residents. Hilliard needs to be very strategic in our residential growth. We need to provide more variety in housing options while still maintaining quality of development. We also need to ensure that our infrastructure keeps up with any growth.
Our City Council has recently approved development of a Housing Study to help guide our future residential growth. This study will be completed by a firm who specializes in this work, along with City staff, members of our community and subject matter experts. It will be a comprehensive study that will look at our current housing stock and see where there are gaps. It will look for opportunities for work force housing that is affordable. It will provide guidance for future residential growth.
It is important for community leaders to listen to their residents. Our City has an excellent communications department that works diligently to make sure that our government is transparent and informed about what is happening in the city. We engage our residents in our new Comprehensive plan that was recently completed. We will residents participate in our Housing Study scheduled to begin this year. In addition, I am active in the community through the Rotary club and other organizations.
Consensus comes about with listening, honesty and respect. Everyone will not always agree with every decision, but if we are honest and respectful we can build relationships to move our community forward.
