I bring a well-rounded background that connects directly to the needs of our city. I began my career as a high school math teacher, learning the value of patience, communication, and investing in the next generation. Today, I practice law here in New Bern, working closely with local governments on zoning, land use, and administrative issues. Since 2022, I have served on New Bern’s Board of Adjustment, gaining firsthand experience in applying the laws that shape our neighborhoods. My wife and I are raising our family here, giving me a personal investment in New Bern’s future. These experiences give me the skills, judgment, and perspective to lead with fairness, transparency, and practical problem-solving.
1. Responsible Planning for Growth: I want to create a citywide strategic plan with public workshops, modernize historic preservation, strengthen resilient infrastructure, update the Land Use Plan, and use the Redevelopment Commission to invest in housing, parks, and youth programs.

2. Economic Development & Opportunity: I want to hire an economic developer, expand downtown entrepreneurship, create targeted business incentives, invest in our infrastructure, and strengthen workforce pipelines.

3. Transparent & Accountable Government: I want to reinstate the Utility Commission to monitor our infrastructure, hold regular town halls, improve early community input, enhance online engagement, and provide clear reporting on budgets and projects.
I will address responsible planning and growth by leading the creation of a citywide strategic plan with inclusive public workshops and neighborhood outreach, modernizing historic preservation guidelines to promote resiliency, strengthening infrastructure through targeted stormwater and drainage improvements, updating the Land Use Plan to guide smarter, climate-resilient development, and using the Redevelopment Commission to invest in housing, parks, and youth programs that strengthen our neighborhoods and prepare New Bern for the future.
I am running for Ward 1 Alderman because I believe in a New Bern that works for everyone: where neighborhoods thrive, businesses grow, and government is open and accountable. I bring a hands-on understanding of city operations from my work as an attorney and Board of Adjustment member, combined with the perspective of a parent raising a family here. My focus will be on practical solutions that balance growth with preservation, expand opportunities for residents, and ensure our city is prepared for the future. I am committed to listening, collaborating, and making decisions that strengthen our community today and for generations to come.
Position/philosophy statement The perspective of a veteran brings invaluable insight to civic leadership! As a proud 22-year veteran, I know firsthand what it means to serve. That same grit, discipline, and accountability drives my commitment to our community.

Being a retired senior military officer, I bring a powerhouse of experience to civic leadership. Years of managing complex operations under pressure make me adept at long-term planning and crisis response. I have led diverse teams through deployments, mass casualties, hurricanes and the COVID Pandemic. I spent my 22-year career team building and developing others. My experience with large bureaucracies will help me navigate government systems and promote action from within. Whether it’s a natural disaster or budget shortfall, I have been trained to be calm in the storm while bringing order and clarity.
1. I will foster a thriving local economy by championing small businesses to attract responsible investments and create meaningful job opportunities to build a resilient and inclusive economy. 2. I am committed to restoring and revitalizing New Bern’s historic infrastructure with solutions that are energy-efficient, storm-resilient, and cost-effective, impacting future generations.

3. I will work to expand veteran programs and promote military connections while honoring their service and integrating their strengths into the fabric of our community.
My key actions for fostering a thriving local economy are, 1. Streamlining the licensing and permit processes to attract entrepreneurs. 2. Hosting regular “Shop Local” campaigns and community markets to boost visibility. 3. Continuing engagement with Craven Community College VOLT Center to align workforce development with employer needs while providing mentorship, shared resources, and networking opportunities.
I believe New Bern could become a model for how small towns honor their past while building a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking future. I would like to see more walkable streets and businesses, a robust riverwalk, a sustainment of native landscaping and a thriving Pepsi Museum! Additionally, I would love to have civic engagement hubs where residents can shape policy, volunteer, and connect with local leaders. I decided to run for Ward 1 Alderman because I care deeply for our community and believe we need strong, responsive leadership that truly represents the voice of our residents. My decision comes from a history of service and a desire to represent a ward where everyone feels heard.
