We are so fortunate to have such incredible public schools in Washington Township. As the parent of two young daughters, I want to ensure our schools remain excellent places for every child to learn and grow. I love Long Valley, and I believe in giving back to the community that gives so much to us. Having spent my entire career in education, serving on the Board of Education is my way of giving back to the schools and families I care about.
I’m a school social worker with nearly 20 years of experience in and around public schools. Over the years, I have worked with students in every grade from K to 12, providing individual and group counseling, leading schoolwide initiatives, coaching teachers, principals, and superintendents, and helping districts align their resources so every child has what they need to thrive. This past year, I have been working full time as a grant writer, which adds another layer of value I can bring to the Board. With school funding formula changes at the state level, we’ve seen a steep decline in state funding over the past decade. My ability to secure additional funding and resources will be an important asset in protecting and strengthening our schools.
Retaining great teachers is the foundation for everything else. When we invest in our teachers and create strong systems that support learning, they can focus on what matters most: teaching our kids. I care deeply about making sure resources are used wisely and that we provide early interventions for students, addressing their academic and behavioral needs. By making sure our systems work well and that we step in early when students need help, we can improve academic outcomes while making the most of our resources and keeping local property taxes in check.
We have made great strides in recent years in getting high quality curriculum into the hands of our teachers. My focus will be to make the most of that investment by ensuring our teachers are well trained and able to implement the curriculum effectively so that students can see the full benefit. I also want to hear from our teachers and administrators. Being a small district gives us a big opportunity to listen and work together. What do they think is working well with the curriculum? Where do they need more support? My goal is to be responsive to our educators and school leaders, because they are the ones in the buildings with our kids every day and they know what they need to succeed academically.
