current job
Deputy Treasurer City of Lynchburg
The biggest challenge facing the Lynchburg treasurer's office is educating the public on the unique roles and responsibilities of the office. Although the treasurer is an elected, constitutional officer, the position itself is not political and not involved in any tax-related policymaking. The primary job of the Lynchburg treasurer is to collect state revenue, mainly in the form of annual income tax and quarterly estimated income tax payments. I am addressing this issue by using various social media platforms to include the treasurer's web page on the City of Lynchburg website (www.lynchburgva.gov) to increase awareness and by discussing this topic during my interactions with citizens.
Based on my experience as deputy treasurer over the past 4+ years, I feel that I am the best candidate for the position. I have managed over $15 million in Virginia state tax revenue since January 2021 and I understand all of the the state inspection, accreditation and professional certification requirements to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs. If elected, I will focus my attention on maintaining operational stability, continuing program excellence, delivering exceptional customer service, and demonstrating professional integrity at all times. I have a BA degree in economics and a master's degree in health administration and I am certified as a Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer.
I was born and raised in Lynchburg (third generation) and a proud graduate of E.C. Glass High School. I have strong ties to the city because my stepfather and half-brother are both retired from the Lynchburg Fire Department and my son is a sophomore at Randolph College. I love the beauty of the area, the friendliness of the people and the Blackwater Creek Trail. I also like to travel and it's nice to have an Amtrak station in town. I have used the train on many occasions to travel to Washington DC, Baltimore and Atlanta. Finally, I served in the USAF for 26 years and lived all over the world. When I retired in 2011, it was an easy decision to return to Lynchburg to be close to my parents, raise a family and start a second career.
