What are the greatest challenges that you hope to manage if you are elected?
Why do you believe you are the best candidate for this elected position?
What do you like most about where you live?
The greatest challenge is turning around our poor marks on SOLs. Being well below state average for several years in a row should concern us all. Having amazing teachers is the most important factor for a good education, and we must find ways to attract and retain the best. We must also ensure teachers and other staff are well supported.
I've worked in K-12 for 28 years. I've been a classroom teacher, central office administrator, coached football and tennis, and hold a doctorate in education leadership.
My neighborhood, Idlewild, is somewhat large, but having lived here since inception (2004), I've gotten the opportunity to know many of my neighbors. We have sidewalks, a pool, tennis courts, nature trails, a splash pad, and now a beautiful middle school. We can walk downtown via the VCR trail, and it feels somewhat suburban, though still in the city and close to downtown and Central Park. What's not to love?
