There is a special quality to the city of Fredericksburg, The small historic downtown, the unique character of the neighborhoods, the University of Mary Washington and the involvement of the residents, makes the city a very special place. I found that I was able to get involved quickly in the environmental community: Helping Friends of the Rappahannock place 4200 acres of river property into permanent easement, helping plan the first 19 miles of walking and biking paths, establishing the Clean & Green Commission and Tree Fredericksburg. We were able to raise over $600,000 in grants to plant over 10,000 trees with thousands of volunteers and help restore the urban forest and tree lined streets in our beautiful adopted city.
