My priorities include preserving our small-town charm, improving traffic flow, maintaining Park and Recreation programs, upgrading our water, sewer, and stormwater systems, public safety, maintaining and planting trees, smart fiscal spending, and encouraging local business development.
I have lived in the Town of Vienna for 29 years and raised my family here. We have lived in three of the four corners of town, and I know the different neighborhoods, many of the unique challenges, and what makes each area special. I was the President of the Vienna Commons Association tackling problems like a daily high school parking problem to replacing many old, damaged pine trees with oaks and maples. I am the Vice President of the North East Vienna Citizens Association and was involved with the rebuilding of Beulah Road Committee. I successfully petitioned the Town Council to install two sets of flashing crosswalk signals along Beulah Road. I proposed the Tree Donation Program to the CSC which the Town Council approved.
In my opinion, one of the most urgent issues is upgrading our aging water, sewer, and stormwater systems. Much of the systems are beyond design life and are inadequate for Vienna today.
An example includes my own home, which was built in the late 1950s. When we moved in, I discovered that the water pressure in the neighborhood is at the very low end of the scale.
The stormwater system needs to be carefully upgraded as well. For example, in July, Piney Branch Creek next to Bear Branch Tavern flooded and was unable to drain into the stormwater system. And a decade ago, a sewer system backup released raw sewage into Piney Branch Creek.
Solutions include applying for state and county grants, a systemwide study to identify and prioritize work.
The new Town of Vienna website actually does a much better job showing "Events and Meetings" on this modern homepage to anyone who scrolls down the page. This is a significant improvement that will help citizens easily see what is happening around town and in the conference rooms. I am impressed how truly helpful viennava.gov is now.
All communications from the public information office should also be added to the homepage, and any posts on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter should direct citizens that more "in depth" information will be available on viennava.gov .

Biography
Jessica H. Ramakis is running for a second term. She has lived in Vienna since 2010 with her husband and is mom to two students in Vienna schools. She is a dedicated to public service, with over 20 years of civil service experience in education policy.
Since taking the oath of office in January 2024, I have served Vienna residents with a focus on the areas that led me to seek election. I prioritize engagement with the community, inviting and elevating input to inform decisions. I advocate for small businesses in Vienna through gathering ideas and simplifying working with the Town. I work to strengthen partnerships with service organizations in the community who do so much for Vienna. I value that we have so many beautiful parks and trees in Vienna, and prioritize improvements to our parks and enhancing our tree canopy. And I prioritize fiscal responsibility, pushing for changes to the development of the budget to make more transparent and strategic decisions.
I am deeply committed to public service. Before my time on Town Council, I served on the Vienna Planning Commission. I have been a civil servant in education policy for over 20 years. My approach involves doing research on the issues, seeking out and listening carefully to different points of view, and building a path forward that engages as many people as possible.
I think it is an urgent priority to improve communication and engagement with residents and businesses to share information in approachable ways and to welcome different points of view to inform decision-making. From my experience I strongly believe that increasing the number of people who can meaningfully engage in policy discussions, even if briefly, can surface some of the most creative ideas. During my time on Town Council, this has been a top priority for me. I think we can do more to share information about Town issues in clear, approachable ways through the Vienna Voice newsletter, social media, video shorts, and by possibly launching a new podcast.
In my time on Town Council, I have consistently advocated for sharing information in clear ways that residents and businesses can engage with quickly and provide feedback that can inform decisions. I value discussions with residents and businesses to share information and welcome different points of view. I believe that listening carefully and finding points of agreement to build a path forward together will get more residents engaged in ways that will be great for Vienna.
