We have the lowest pay in the region for teachers and are losing some of our best educators, who want to stay in the school district, but due to family obligations, often requiring increased pay, are reluctantly leaving for other school divisions. The most important thing for me is to find excess funds to increase teacher pay, without asking the Board of Supervisors for increased funding.
I have four years of experience on the School Board. I’ve worked closely with the other Board members to change several policies to reflect our community values, to include prohibiting teachers and staff from sharing their personal ideologies and political opinions with their students; to prohibit biological males and females from using the bathrooms and locker rooms of the opposite gender; and most importantly, to guarantee that parents are treated as parents, meaning nothing concerning their children are kept from them, unless there’s a clear reason to believe the child would be harmed - something I have seen in our school district.
It’s a quiet community with very friendly and welcoming citizens.
