The greatest challenge facing Buena Vista today is a lack of fiscal responsibility. For too long, past and current council members have relied almost exclusively on our citizens as the primary source of revenue, while repeatedly refinancing debt just to stay afloat. This practice must end. Our city has a history of prioritizing wants over needs, leaving essential projects - such as road paving and critical water and wastewater facility upgrades - underfunded or delayed. With new regulatory demands increasing the pressure on our community, it is more important than ever that our budget be managed with discipline and oversight. Buena Vista deserves leadership that will make responsible financial decisions and focus on true priorities.
I am deeply rooted in Buena Vista and have closely followed our local government for nearly two decades. Like my neighbors, lhave endured repeated increases in water and wastewater fees, rising refuse collection costs, and higher personal and property taxes — without seeing the promised benefits. These revenues were earmarked for projects like the wastewater facility upgrade, originally projected for completion in 2026. To this day, the project hasn't even begun, and citizens are being asked to shoulder yet another round of increases to fund the FY26 budget. I am committed to putting in the time, energy and dedication to ensure our community's resources are managed wisely and in the best interest of the citizens.
I love living in a small community where people come together to celebrate the successes of others as well as to offer aid and support to a neighbor during a crisis. It's great to be anywhere within our city and be able to appreciate the mountains and wildlife around us.
