I bring four terms of experience as a Charlotte City Councilmember At-Large, where I’ve led efforts to deliver balanced budgets, expand affordable housing, and strengthen infrastructure—all while maintaining one of the lowest tax rates among major NC cities.
As Chair of the Budget Committee and former Chair of the Environment Committee, I’ve prioritized transparency, fiscal responsibility, and environmental sustainability.
As a working mom, former CPA, and someone who’s faced housing insecurity, I bring both professional skill and personal perspective to every decision I make.
Affordable Housing – I will continue pushing for increased investment in affordable housing to ensure every family has a safe, stable place to live.
Public Safety – I’m committed to supporting first responders while also expanding mental health crisis response and violence prevention programs.
Infrastructure & Mobility – I will prioritize equitable investment in sidewalks, safer streets, and reliable public transportation to connect our growing city.
These priorities reflect my belief that every resident deserves safety, stability, and opportunity—no matter their zip code.
To address affordable housing, I’ll advocate for stronger public-private partnerships, increase funding for the Housing Trust Fund, and support zoning decisions that allow for more diverse housing options. I’ll also ensure city-owned land is used to create deeply affordable units. My approach is shaped by lived experience—my family once lived in a single motel room—so I know how urgent and personal housing insecurity is. Everyone deserves a safe, stable home.

I have a combination of experience, relationships, and results. I’ve had the privilege of serving the City of Charlotte and leading major investments in affordable housing, economic & workforce development, and small & minority business development; initiatives that have strengthened our communities and expanded opportunities for our residents.
My understanding of how city government operates enables me to navigate complex challenges, delivering real results. I also bring long-standing relationships with community leaders, local businesses, and regional partners, critical to building consensus and moving Charlotte forward. Together, this experience and these skills uniquely position me to continue delivering for the people of Charlotte.
1. Affordable housing: Two years ago, I was the first Councilmember to lead the charge in doubling our housing trust fund, from $50 to $100 million. The voters backed that vision, passing the housing bond with a 76% approval rating.
2. Economic & workforce development: For economic development, I’ve led efforts to provide gap funding for key projects within our Corridors of Opportunity. In terms of workforce development, I spearheaded the creation of a new city policy resulting in general contractors providing employment for 28 individuals who previously faced barriers to employment.
3. Small & minority business development: During my time on City Council, I have been a consistent advocate for equitable access to economic opportunity.
With respect to small & minority business development:
1. I’d implement the Quick Payment Program, currently a pilot program, to reduce payment cycles from 90 to 30 days and improve cash flow for small businesses.
2. I’d ensure a strategic plan is in place to meet our 27% spending goal with small and minority-owned businesses, equating to $175 million on the $650 million Bank of America project alone.
3. I’d continue to advocate for greater access to capital
4. I'd implement a mentoring program to help small and minority businesses build capacity, gain industry knowledge, and compete for larger contracts.
This year, my slogan is Enthusiasm, Experience, and Results. I’m still energized and excited to serve the people of Charlotte. Like the energizer bunny, I’m going strong, and committed to working hard for our community every day. Thanks to your support, I’ve been able to provide experienced leadership and deliver real solutions to some of our city’s toughest challenges, including affordable housing, minority business participation, and workforce development. But the work isn’t done yet. With your continued support and input, I’d be honored to keep working on behalf of the citizens of Charlotte to build a stronger, more equitable city for all.

I am not just visible in community I am deeply known. Whether I'm speaking with corporate leaders in a boardroom or listening to a homeless neighbor on the street, I attempt to meet people where they are. That rare mix of authenticity, approachability, and professionalism has earned me the trust of thousands across every zip code in Charlotte.
1) The impact on housing affordability with our residents who receive subsidy assistance under this current administration.
2) Transportation access to our residents who depend on public transportation for work, school and life.
3) Wages that allow residents to live and play in Charlotte and the surrounding areas.
I have requested of the City Manager an update to the Housing & Public Safety committee that I currently Co-Chair led by our development and non-profit partners on the impacts of this current administrations rhetoric and attacks on our most vulnerable population along with its potential impacts to their programs and funding.
I am committed to growing in my role. Over the last few years, I taken additional classes and trainings in Construction Management & Technology, Green Building Design & Artificial Intelligence Technology, not for recognition, but because I am driven to do the work better and smarter. That hunger to learn reflects my dedication to the evolving needs of the city and my personal growth.

I want to hear directly from Charlotte residents to update our community agenda so it reflects the issues people are facing today. I’ll also focus on housing by reviewing the progress of our $100 million housing bond—looking at current supply, vacancies, and income levels—to make sure those dollars are being invested wisely and effectively.
