The Alpine school district division begins with the November 2025 General Election, where voters will elect all 21 school board seats within their respective school board member districts. Once elected, the new board members will begin serving in December 2025 with three (3) to five (5) year terms. Over the following year, the three new districts will focus on crafting policies, hiring staff, including the superintendent, negotiating with other boards to decide which district gets what resources in the Alpine split and set property tax rates. The transition will culminate at the beginning of the 2027 school year when the newly formed districts, Lake Mountain, Aspen Peaks and Timpanogos districts, will officially start educating students. Lake Mountain School District will have 7 seats and encompasses Cedar Fort, Fairfield, Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs and some unincorporated parts of Utah County. Our main goal for this transition is to keep things going smoothly, not to start all over. We are lucky to have a great foundation to build on from the Alpine School District, and we plan to respect their work. For curriculum and student services, we will keep the exceptional programs and materials they already have. This means a steady and excellent education for our students. Just as important, we know that our people are our greatest strength, and keeping our staff will take real effort. We will earn their trust and encourage them to stay by truly listening to them, standing up for their needs, and making sure they are paid fairly.
My approach to serving our diverse learners is simple: strengthen what works and build where we have gaps. First, I am committed to protecting the excellent programs we already have. I will fully support continuing our district's agreements with Aspen Peaks, the Dan Peterson School, Summit, and East Shore Online. These schools provide critical, specialized support, and we must ensure they remain a stable resource for our students. Next, we need to better support the parents of these students. I will advocate for hiring more parent liaisons, specifically to help families of English language learners and those navigating the IEP/504 process.
Teachers need to feel valued. An important strategy is ensuring that our principles will be cheerleaders and advocates for our teachers by creating a culture of appreciation and a positive work environment. I will work to give our principals the tools and resources needed so our teachers feel championed and supported to keep morale high. My goal is to celebrate teachers with actions, not just words. Our teachers will be included in the conversations that happen at the board level. Our teachers should have a voice in this new district. In addition, teachers feel valued with competitive pay and benefits, and opportunities for career advancement.
I’m passionate about ensuring equity for all of our kids. Equity is not about treating every student the same; it's about giving every student what they need to succeed. The achievement gap is a direct symptom of a deeper opportunity gap and individual learners' needs. My goal as a board member will be to meet those needs and break down those barriers. We must ensure our instruction is responsive to every learner. This means championing a curriculum that reflects the needs of every student and the rich diversity of our community. Through continuous input from our stakeholders, our teachers, parents, and students, we will empower our educators by providing robust professional development focused on meeting the needs of our students.
Student safety and mental health are non-negotiable and will always be my top priorities on this board. First, we must ensure every student and staff member has robust access to school counselors, psychologists, and effective mental health resources. I am researching evidence-based programs and partnerships that will allow us to exceed the standards for student support while remaining fiscally responsible. Our students' well-being is the basis of their academic success, and it must be protected. Second, I am committed to a collaborative and unified board. By building relationships with my fellow board members now, we can ensure that when critical decisions about student safety and mental health arise.
