Priority 1: De-polarize issues in Provo that shouldn't be political. My professional background is in environmental, sustainable design. I have been successful in my career because I combine the more conservative values of fiscal responsibility and individual choice with environmental projects. I would like to discuss canyon preservation, bike paths, beautiful development, congestion, air quality, affordable housing, etc... without polarization. Priority 2: We need the courage to have hard conversations. During my years of district service we watched many affordable housing projects be built. In Provo, the more affordable a property is, the more profitable it becomes for investors. We must acknowledge the truth to find a solution
I support limits on how many homes an investor can buy in Provo and owner‑occupancy requirements for new development so that investors can't monopolize affordable housing and increase rents.
Residents of an area deserve the loudest voice when zoning changes are considered.
I support higher density around the FrontRunner station where it fits transit‑oriented growth, while protecting established neighborhoods.
I will champion affordable housing education and online tools. Few residents apply for basement apartment permits in areas already zoned for them. I would create an online tool to show where ADUs are allowed, explain the process, and offer guidance. I also plan to hold events with local lenders to help residents get started.
Provo already benefits from commissions and standing committee. Our Arts Council, for example, brings together residents and professionals to promote and preserve the arts. I propose creating a Natural Resources Committee that is independent from other existing committees.
This permanent committee would be made up of local residents and experts who are passionate about our canyons, lake, river, and trails. Its mission would be to monitor natural areas, coordinate with conservation groups and other cities, propose conservation zones and policy changes, and report regularly to the City Council.
Most importantly, this committee would ensure consistent, proactive conservation that continues regardless of changes in city leadership.
Relationships matter. I will actively participate in community events and meetings beyond regular council responsibilities. I deeply value our city employees and the hard work they do every day. Many staff members already collaborate with the County and other agencies, and their expertise is essential. As a council member, I will lead efforts to build and strengthen strategic relationships while fully respecting and including our staff in those efforts. Together, we can ensure Provo’s voice is strong and well‑represented in every partnership.
This is an issue close to my heart. I have lived in Provo 38 of my 48 years. Ten of those were in Colorado, where I started my own sustainable design company. I was one of the first LEED‑accredited professionals in the industry—trained in sustainable and environmental planning. I worked on malls, large developments, state parks, and much of downtown Denver. Provo’s development needs to consider new sustainable standards. We can incorporate walking and bike paths into every plan, set air quality goals, and limit congestion. I could go on and on. Basically, I want to raise the bar and prioritize beauty and sustainability in every vote.

First, protect Slate Canyon from commercial development by putting it in a conservation easement and prioritizing park funding. It's one of Provo's most beautiful natural spaces and should be protected from commercial development. I will then work to prioritize the development of the long-promised Slate Canyon park.
Second, address the cost of living for Provo residents. Rising costs are crushing the young and old. Everything Provo does should consider the impact on the cost of living for residents, encompassing housing, utilities, taxes, and more.
My leadership style emphasizes data-driven decision-making, strategic thinking, and finding win-win solutions. I'm guided by fairness, responsibility, and genuine care for our community.
Cost of living is a crisis in Utah, and housing is a major component. I will take three approaches:
First, enable small, local developers by reducing regulatory barriers that favor large corporations over small builders. Provo should run public workshops that guide residents through the building process—from concept to approval—while connecting them with vetted local contractors.
Second, allow diverse housing types, such as smaller homes, townhomes, and condos, near transit and campus where density makes sense.
Third, reduce permitting costs and streamline code compliance to help alleviate inflated housing prices. These solutions would help address affordability while supporting local businesses and preserving neighborhood character.
Managing growth requires protecting what makes Provo special while welcoming families who want to call it home.
First, I'll use conservation easements to protect high-value areas (canyons, foothills, river, lakeside agriculture).
Second, I'll support local farms through agri-business-friendly code.
Third, I'll encourage for-sale housing options—including condos, townhomes, and smaller homes—in areas that already have infrastructure, such as downtown and near campus. This keeps families in Provo without forcing development into our open spaces.
The goal is responsible growth that maintains our mountain views, natural spaces, and family-friendly character while ensuring our children can afford to stay in the community they grew up in.
Regional challenges require strong relationships and clear communication. I'll build personal connections with neighboring mayors, city councilors, county commissioners, and UTA leadership. I'd also like to participate (or organize) forums where we can share learnings and best practices. My approach is to share our plans early, listen to their priorities, and find common ground.
This is a very important issue for me.
A sustainable future for Provo means preserving our natural beauty and resources while addressing the real challenge of affordability.
I'll protect our foothills, canyons, lake, and rivers through conservation easements and strategic land purchases/swaps.
I'll support balanced energy sources that provide reliable, affordable power while reducing our environmental impact.
I'll also prioritize safe streets and diverse transportation options so families can drive, walk, bike, or use transit safely.
To me, sustainability means planning today so our children inherit a Provo tomorrow that's as beautiful, livable, and economically strong as the one we love today.
