I am running for residents in District 2 to have a voice in the development of our new city. As a 40-year Nordic Valley resident I am saddened to see fifty-two acres of open space rezoned to allow for the building of 800 short term rental units. I did not support this rezone, nor did I support the massive plans to develop in our neighborhood. The large scale of this development will destroy our area with increased hardscape and leave fewer natural surroundings. Large developments will lead to less natural spaces and wildlife habitat. I am running to ensure land use ordinances preserve the amazing natural beauty and character of the valley.
The three issues are water availability, development and infrastructure, and short-term rentals. All three issues are complex and will take a “valley” to solve. Much work has been done by the transition teams, and we should build on that work. However, much more work is needed to be done in a very short period of time. We need to write effective ordinances, starting with current data and facts. We get the facts then face them as a community to create a sustainable plan. Same with development and infrastructure; we need to know what has been approved and where to coordinate infrastructure construction. Regarding short-term rentals we need to review current data on where they are located, how many units are operating, and know the enforcement concerns. When we can answer the current trends then we write effective ordinances. As a retired educator I have the skill, time and work ethic to ensure our city is functional by January.
I am a retired administrator from Ogden City School with 36 years in education. I was an elementary school principal, a high school assistant principal, a junior high school principal and the Director of Special Education. These were all growing experience in leadership, organization, working with teams and community building. I see many similarities to being a council member as to being a school administrator. Including building and managing budgets with tight resources and accounting for every dollar, making sure we are staffed with quality employees, complying with state and federal laws, involving community members, writing plans, and moving the team toward our shared vision. These skills will make me an excellent council member
Healthy growth implies keeping our community healthy. To keep our community healthy, we need to find the balance between the needs of the residents, and tourism. We should utilize citizen committees to advise on issues like planning, sustaining agricultural, commercial development, short-term rentals, natural resource management, land conservation and traffic concerns.
Additionally, with the inevitable growth that will occur in our valley I suggest the creation of a valley wide communication system. The system would be for residents to know what is happening in our valley, with our roads, power, water and other concerns. Communication is essential in the case of an emergency. Working together we will guide healthy growth.
The Bowmen Collins and Associate 2023 water study stated that if the county does not develop a municipal water system, then they should significantly reduce development! The projected estimate to build a new municipal water system was divided into two phases totaling 64 million dollars. That is not doable for us in the near future.
We have water companies that are committed to providing high quality water and service to their customers. They will continue to manage our water systems in the near future. To ensure water for our future we need to advocate for the current residents' water rights over development. We should require will serve letters prior to an application for development and talk to other cities about successful solutions.
My family has lived and farmed in this valley for six generation I would like to see this continue but I fear over development, high taxes and the loss of property rights this is what I would fight against.
Lack of funds!!
There is not a clear cut answer for this but we will need to work with the county and get creative to not raise taxes
Over development.
Slow it down as much as possible and create something we are proud of.
People with the wrong priority’s running for office.
There are good ones running but the shinny apple is not always the best.

I currently serve as Water Superintendent of a system of over 27,000 residents I’ve had my level 4 water certifications for over 18 years. So I do have some water experience.
We need to protect and keep the water we have here in the valley there’s a lot leaving already.
