I spent a decade as a civil engineer, I currently work for a national environmental nonprofit leading their state and local policy work, and I previously served on the Roeland Park City Councill. I understand infrastructure, policy, and public service. And I’m committed to ensuring that WaterOne continues providing high quality drinking water, reliably, sustainably and cost effectively.
As the challenges facing our water supplies continue to emerge, it’s more important than ever that the Board evolves to meet the moment. I bring the kind of expertise and experience that can help WaterOne face these threats.
My three priorities are those critical projects, (1) Maintain the utility's commitment to affordable access to drinking water, (2) ensure staff can use a science-based approach to water quality, and (3) continue a long-term planning approach guided by sustainability.
Access to safe, clean, and affordable water is a widely acknowledged human right, making equity in WaterOne's rate structure critically important. WaterOne has been effective in monitoring its rates as a percentage of customer income and maintaining transparent, consistent communication that invites community involvement in decision-making. To promote fairness and equity in the rate structure, I will advocate for the continued tracking of affordability metrics and for ongoing, proactive community engagement.
