Personal Biography
I was born and raised in Wichita. I am a retired teacher and principal from Wichita Public Schools. I have 2 adult children and one grandchild. I work part-time at Hesston College as an adjunct faculty member and Student Success Specialist
Education
B.A. in English Education from Wichita State. M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from Wichita State. Ed.D in Education Leadership from Wichita State.
My top priority is to support the superintendent and all of USD266 in providing an education for their students that is safe, equitable and accessible.
A concern that has emerged recently is students' ethical use of AI. There are some fields that are excited to teach students how to use AI and other fields that are struggling with students using AI as a shortcut to assignment completion. There is no doubt that AI is ubiquitous (and certainly not just in education); so it's important to ensure that students are using AI as a supplement, and not a replacement to their educational activities.
An additional concern has always been and will always be school safety. This includes building security and infrastructure, student behavior policies, and online safety.
I have been an educator my entire adult life. While a teacher and administrator, I worked primarily in grades 6-12, and now I am working at the college level. I have great insight into how students, staff, and parents navigate the journey of k-12 education and beyond. I have experience as a parent AND as a teacher and administrator and can empathize with all points of view.
School board members are responsible for financial and strategic oversight. We are duty bound to ensure the best interests of the community and school leadership are always at the core of our decision making.
