Personal Biography
I am a product of public schools, the daughter of public school educators, and a former teacher. I grew up in Topeka and am mother to three young daughters who attend Topeka Public Schools.
Education
PhD in Curriculum and Instruction
Community/Public Service
I was appointed to my current seat on the Topeka Public Schools BOE in July 2024.
My priorities for USD 501 include ensuring equitable resources and practices across all schools, recruiting and retaining highly qualified, engaged teachers, and focusing on the needs of our Level One students to ensure as much academic growth as possible.
I have spent most of my adult life as an educator and care deeply about quality public education, from the larger system down to the individual classrooms. I was a middle school teacher for more than a decade and earned my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in 2016. Public education and community activism were the subjects of my dissertation. Most importantly, I have three young children who attend Topeka Public Schools, and I know how vital our schools are to our community and the many ways that our investment in public education today pays off in the future.
In my role as a school board member, I see my responsibility as working in true partnership with the district—supporting its mission while holding it accountable to the community it serves. I do not manage the day-to-day operations of schools or the larger district; rather, I provide oversight, set strategic priorities, and push for continuous improvement. A key part of this work is serving as a supervisor and evaluator for the superintendent, ensuring that leadership decisions align with the district’s goals and values while fostering an environment where students and staff can thrive.
