I'm an involved Pontiac resident and homeowner who loves our city. I currently lead the legislative branch of Pontiac City Government, as Pontiac City Council President since 2022. I represent Pontiac's Eastside and have been an effective and responsive Councilman, rebuilding our District monthly meetings and engagement. Previously, I served on the Pontiac School Board from 2017 to 2022, including a term as Board President. I've led Oakland County's Historical Society in Pontiac for six years as Executive Director.
My work history also includes four years as a professional Downtown Director and nearly a decade of working for our previous Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence in various leadership positions. I volunteered as Chairman of the Pontiac Arts Commission, starting the Pontiac Arts Crawl, and as a Pontiac Charter Revision Commissioner.
I'm running for Mayor because I have the experience, energy, and ideas to move our amazing city forward faster. Let's get to work, Pontiac!
We've got a lot of work to do on many fronts. During my time on City Council, we've accomplished a lot and our city is stronger, but I want to see faster results for us residents. Here are three priority issues as our next mayor:
(1) Hiring, Retaining, Organizing, Leading a Full Team at Pontiac City Hall. This is one of the most central roles for a Mayor and we need it to be the done quickly and maintain that success. Many projects depend on it.
(2) Constructing, Opening our New Youth Recreation Center. The city chose a new recreation center site and acquired it, demolished the vacant school, prepared the site, approved the design concept, and authorized project financing. My vision is for the project to move forward faster. As Mayor, I'll swiftly finish construction, open and operate this new center for our community's children.
(3) Swiftly Utilizing American Rescue Plan Act Funds by the end of 2026. Millions need to be spent by the deadline and I can best hit the ground running.

Committee to Elect Deirdre Waterman
Dr. Waterman is a physician, longtime community advocate and Pontiac's first woman mayor. Serving 2 previous terms, she led the way to Pontiac's comeback. She brings the experience of leadership and administration and the track record of focusing the city's progress in financial stability, bringing jobs and economic development, while concentrating on improving safety and increasing affordable housing and opportunity for all. She brings the history of proven leadership and proven results, and the experience to start from the first day in office to continue Pontiac on the "trajectory of success" that begun during her previous administration and resulted in over $500,000 million in economic development and 20,000 new jobs - increasing the tax base and the quality of the services to residents. She was also responsible for increasing the amount of federal ARPA funding by 700% which has helped to revitalize our neighborhoods and support our homeowners and small businesses.
To continue Pontiac's comeback, we must focus on 1. Maintaining our financial stability to provide for improved services to our citizens 2. Concentrating on the priorities of our residents and businesses which includes fixing and maintaining our roads and
infrastructure 3. Provide an environment of safety and progress for our citizens and businesses which includes controlling security and decreasing crime; providing educational and job workforce opportunity; assuring that opportunities are available to all for safe, affordable housing.
Pontiac is a vibrant, diverse, resilient and multi-cultural city. My vision is of a shared vision that will respect that diversity and build upon our strengths by strategic planning and focusing on the needs of our residents and business owners. It is also my vision to utilize and nurture local talent by mentoring young leaders with opportunities to work within the administration as they prepare to be our leaders of the future.

Why I’m Running for Mayor of Pontiac
For over 20 years, I’ve dedicated myself to building a stronger, more just Oakland County—and Pontiac has always been at the heart of that mission. I’m running for Mayor because I believe in Pontiac. I believe in the power of our people, the potential of our neighborhoods, and the promise of a city that has weathered hard times and still stands tall.
I served as City Council President during Pontiac’s most difficult years, including under state receivership, where I worked without pay and helped restore local democracy. I co-authored the first successful City Charter revision in over four decades, fought to protect retiree healthcare, and helped eliminate millions in school district debt.
Through my work as Co-Executive Director of Oakland Forward, I’ve fought to remove economic, racial, and social barriers that hold our community back. I’ve led efforts to expand regional transit, create youth recreation opportunities, and pass resolutions
I’m running for Mayor to bring Pontiac H.O.M.E. Together—by focusing on Housing, Opportunity, Municipal Services, and Education. We need affordable housing that strengthens neighborhoods, real job opportunities for local residents, and reliable city services that meet the everyday needs of our community. Education and youth investment are key to our future, and I’ve worked to eliminate school debt and expand youth programs. I’ve led with integrity, passed ethics reforms, and delivered results. Now, I’m ready to do more. It’s time to take care of home—together.
