I am wife to Bill, mother to three, business owner & recently earned my associates at Schoolcraft College. I completed the Honors Scholars program with Service Endorsement. I own and operate a leadership coaching firm. I am running for re-election because I believe in collaboration as well as firm leadership to ensure solutions do not become worse than the problems. I have used my experience and leadership skills to listen to and serve Westland residents and businesses. I am asking Westland to re-elect me to continue my work with Council. I believe Westland can be an even better place to live, work & play where residents & business flourish.
This year’s budget added $650K to the rainy day fund. I will help continue this progress by looking at ways to be sure we can manage the services we provide and improve Westland without increasing taxes and look at ways to reduce the budget and save in taxes. A 2nd priority is to create opportunities for vibrant arts and culture in Westland—this overlooked pillar is vital to the physical, mental & economic health of residents, businesses and the community as a whole. I will work with administration to create ways to draws people, businesses to come together in positive ways. Third, we must raise up and focus on Westland’s strengths—we have great people, businesses and things to do. That isn’t always the message, but we can do better.

I am running for re-election to the City Council as I feel I not only have the tools and talents for this rile, but also the most experience of anyone running. In my various professional roles for several companies, non-profits, and government agencies, I have been able to develop and refine these skills for use on the council and betterment of our city.
Top issues are financial stability, Police and Fire retention and growth, blight and ordinance enforcement, and economic growth.

I’m a Husband, Father, and small business owner with a background in IT and problem-solving. I’ve worked to improve street lighting, support youth programs, and strengthen our neighbourhoods. I’m running for re-election to continue building a safer, stronger, and more connected city. I believe in servant leadership, transparency, and making sure every resident’s voice is heard.

My top priorities are public safety, infrastructure, and community programs. I will support our first responders, invest in better roads and lighting, and expand services for youth and families. I’ll work to attract businesses, create jobs, and ensure tax dollars are used wisely. My focus is on listening, delivering results, and keeping Westland a place where everyone can thrive.

I’m a lifelong Westland resident, former Mayor, and past City Council President Pro Tem. I’ve helped lead major road, park, and public safety upgrades, ensured financial stability, and launched record investments in neighborhoods. I also bring private-sector experience in sales and business consulting, with a focus on leadership, budgeting, and problem-solving. I’m running because I care deeply about Westland and want to continue serving the community that has given me so much. Many of the initiatives I helped launch are still in progress, and I want to see them through while working on new challenges. I believe my experience, steady leadership, and deep community ties make me uniquely prepared to serve effectively on day one.
Public safety remains my top priority. We need to ensure our police, fire, and EMS departments are fully staffed, well-equipped, and supported to meet growing community needs. I also hear from residents about the need for more recreation opportunities—especially a modern rec center and pool—which would improve quality of life and help attract new families. Lastly, we must keep our neighborhoods safe, clean, and strong by continuing investments in roads, sidewalks, and tackling blight. If elected, I’ll work collaboratively to address these priorities through responsible budgeting, community engagement, and by building on the progress already underway in these areas.

I’m running for City Council because the city has been my home for over 35 years. I moved here in 1988 built my career and found a true sense of community. I have a BBA in Accounting. During my career I held a Series 7 stock brokers license , Michigan Series 63 and 66. Michigan insurance license health life- code and variable contracts. I was also a CRPC. I currently work part time at the Henry Ford museum Rouge and I live with my 91 year old mother. I am running for city council because I believe I have the skill set to help make the council stronger. I am not here to be a rubberstamp but I am here to apply my skill set to make the city better.
The number one issue facing Westland is that we are a city with growing needs but limited resources. We need additional police officers, upgrades to our city infrastructure, and more investment in our neighborhoods to maintain the quality of life we deserve. But meeting these needs requires increased revenue, and I do not believe that should fall on the backs of our residents through higher taxes.

The best way to strengthen Westland’s financial future is through growth. Attracting new businesses creates jobs, brings in new revenue, and allows us to fund the services and improvements our city needs without raising taxes. With my financial background and experience on Brownsfield redevelopement we can and will bring in new business.

My name is Josh Powell and I am running for city council because I think our city needs fresh ideas to reinvigorate the local economy, better create a sense of community in our city and get people excited to live in Westland again.

I served in the Army National Guard for 6 years as an MP in the states of Missouri and Michigan. I've worked in IT for 16 years and am currently the Master Data Administrator for a major automotive supplier, I have a degree in IT from Lindenwood University and in 2021 I went back to school and got my criminal justice degree and started attending law school after that.
The immediate priority is to lower the cost of living for residents of all ages. From lowering utility costs to reducing property tax millages, everything is far too expensive and the number one priority needs to be to do whatever it takes to lower these costs for residents and businesses.

I have been married for 30 years and have 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren. I am a 30 year attorney and own my own law practice. I served for 8 years as an elected Wayne County Commissioner. I currently serve the City of Westland on the Youth Assistance Advisory Board, as a Youth Mentor, on the Tax Board of Review and on the Local Development Finance Authority Board. I am also a member of the Westland Historical Society and volunteer in the community. I am running for City Council because I want to bring positive change to our city. I want to make sure that all citizens voices are heard and that everyone is treated fairly. I believe that my experience as an attorney and public office holder will be a tremendous asset to the city.
First, we need to make sure that our public safety departments are fully staffed and have the best equipment available to them. I would work to ensure that both our police and fire departments are fully funded so that we can decrease crime and make sure that residents are safe and receive proper response times to emergency calls. Second, I believe our parks and recreation department has been understaffed and underfunded for many years. I would work to ensure increased funding for this department to bring better services to our residents. Third, the city council needs to be aware of possible decreased grant revenues coming from the Federal and State governments and make sure that the city is properly budgeting for these possibilities.
