I have served as a Schuylerville Central School District Board of Education member since 2020 and currently serve as the president. Additionally, I was a member of the Audit Committee and was Schuylerville's delegate to the Saratoga County School Board Association.
I originally ran for the School Board in 2020 out of a strong sense of volunteerism. My daughters have both received excellent educations at Schuylerville and I wanted to dedicate time and effort to the district. I am fully vested in the effort and commitment that are required for this position. The experience gained from my current term on the board has provided me with the necessary understanding of what is required of a board member.
My main concern is the ability of smaller rural districts, like Schuylerville, to maintain quality educational and extracurricular offerings to students in the face of mounting financial challenges and instability. Our state budgeting process, declining enrollment and the school funding mechanism have created serious challenges to districts as they attempt to balance the needs of students and staff with potential budget shortfalls. The School Board will need to work closely with district leadership to make sound budgetary decisions.

Student success is heavily dependent upon dedicated and proficient teachers and staff. Teachers and staff are reliant upon an experienced and supportive administrative team. Both teachers and administrators only succeed in their mission when true partnerships exist with parents. The greater community provides many avenues of support to the district and helps create the culture that becomes the true identity of a school district. Schuylerville Central School is at the very core of the greater community and all five constituencies play an equally essential role.
Thank you to the League of Women Voters of Saratoga County for providing this forum to allow voters to learn about Board of Education candidates.
I have served on the Schuylerville school board for the past 2 years and have also been on the schools code of conduct committee. Prior to that I have been a core member of the South High Marathon Dance adult committee and have served on several committees at Glens Falls Hospital.
Having served on the board for 2 years I have developed a good working relationship with the teachers, staff, administration and my fellow board members. I am motivated to serve on the board to continue to cultivate the positive learning environment at Schuylerville and to support the teachers, staff and students. My experience on the board has given me an excellent background to juggle the demands that being on the board requires.
My number one concern for my school district is to continue to provide a supportive, high quality educational experience for our students while navigating the fiscal unknowns and hardships that each school district will face over the coming years. Bearing in mind that we as a district need to maintain an intelligent long term financial plan for our community. Also to help Schuylerville develop a responsible plan to address technology and cell phones in the classroom.

I believe that all these constituencies are extremely important but I think that the students having their best possible educational experience should be everyone's top priority.
