I am seeking a second term on the Board. I have lived in Niskayuna for over 30 yrs. served in numerous volunteer/leadership roles within several community organizations. I have helped coach various sports teams through the town recreation department and Niskayuna Youth Football and Cheer. I served as president of the HS PTO, chair of the HS craft fair, was a member of several district committees as a parent and community rep including the district’s 50 and 60-year anniversary committees. She has retired from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services where she served over 40 years in helping to shape child welfare policy and practice in NYS. I am a graduate of Niskayuna as well as my four children.
I am uniquely positioned to meet this challenge. My commitment to this district runs deep over many years as both a student and a parent and a community leader. I believe if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. That sounds harsh but I feel it is everyone’s responsibility to contribute to the conversations that lead to the decision making. Any commitment we choose to make takes the commitment of time. Prioritizing and careful scheduling allows me to maintain the level of commitment that I make to anything I am involved with. Being retired also helps tremendously. to our schools. When I believe in something so deeply, it becomes part of my daily routine.
On a national level I am concerned about the policies and directives coming at us from Washington and how this could impact our current local policies as well as any financial impact on our district On a local level I am concerned about cell phone use during the day (social media) and the detrimental impact it is having on our student’s mental health and safety; I am also concerned about being able to hire and retain the best and brightest teachers and staff.

Constituent feedback is vital to a vibrant and responsive district. Hearing the various point of view and perceived potential challenges helps us make better informed decision. While you can’t make everyone happy, you can use these dialogues to come to mutual consensus. When everyone feels heard, they feel a part of the solution. It is also worth noting that effective school boards put policy into place and provide governance. The day-to-day business of the district, the enforcement of the polices so to speak, are handled by administration and staff. The balance between these two is indicative of a successful and high functioning district.
Niskayuna has always been a district of distinction. The commitment to creating an equitable community of lifelong learners is our vision with a mission to Empower, Persevere, Innovate, and Connect. We are Niskayuna, a dynamic learning community where students, staff and families are committed to empowering one another and growing together.
