I was previously on the Bandon School Board from 2000-2008, serving as chairman for two years. I am a retired RN, where I managed patient loads, collaborating with support staff, and communicating with physicians. I am also an actor, which means working with people of varying degrees of knowledge and ability to bring a story to life on stage. And most importantly I am a mother of four children who grew up to be wonderful humans.
My understanding of the District's obligation to comply with federal and state education policies, is that we must comply with their policies. If we disagree with a policy, we follow the procedures available to make our disagreement known.
I would like to join the Oregon Rural School Board Member Caucus and help make the rural schools' voices louder. School funding was the major issue twenty years ago for small districts, and that has not changed.

We are sworn to follow the Constitution of the United States of America, and follow the laws of the State of Oregon.
I would first ask for more rigorous testing and curriculum to be implemented, along with alternative pathways for students such as CTE programs. I would ask for the highest level of performance standards to be met for our teachers and admin. I would give rural schools more funding to allow them to pay their teachers and staff better wages, to care for their facilities, and to provide higher quality education by investing robust programs and systems that give all students the best opportunity to succeed. I would eliminate political ideologies and sexual preferences from all classrooms and curriculum, and make sure we are focused solely on educating children. I would make sure parents are informed and engaged with our staffs.
