Being a teacher and a substitute for the past 44 years, I bring a vast number of educational experiences to draw from. Serving on numerous committees I have worked with others to review curriculum and best practices for our students. At the high school level, I have served as SAT/ACT supervisor and proctor along with helping seniors complete scholarship applications. As Parent Involvement Coordinator, I have worked with the elementary schools to create informative learning nights for parents and students. Teaching and/or supervising in Summer School for many years I know the need for the program in our District. In 2020, I worked as a Census Field Supervisor training staff and answering questions, they and community members had.
It is the law that the District must comply with federal and state educational policies. Most of our school funding comes from the state and about 10.8% from the federal government. However, if there are policies that our District would like to see changed or implemented then the School Board could advocate for them.
Before addressing any issue, this question must be first answered, "How will this benefit the students?" Addressing issues that I feel most urgent would require that I gather information and/or data and draw from my educational background. Then I would need input from the community, schools and students as appropriate. Last, using a common-sense solution I would bring it to the other School Board members and Superintendent to resolve. Working together we can solve issues in our schools!
