Port of Garibaldi Commissioner Position 2

Special districts in Oregon are formed to provide specific local government needs. They are created by a vote of the people in the local area being served. Examples include people’s utility districts, library districts, water districts, fire protection districts, and more. They are governed by a board of directors, which is responsible for management and financial accountability. Special districts are empowered to levy any necessary taxes and fees to fulfill their mandate. Board members are not paid but may receive a per diem reimbursement.Port District boards manage the infrastructure of local ports and their development for recreational, economic, and environmental purposes.Qualifications: Candidate must be a registered voter in the district. I have an MBA from the University of Oregon and over 25 years of business experience, much of that in technology. I believe I can bring new ideas and perspective to the Port Commission. I have been on the Port budget committee for the past 3 years, and I am a moorage holder at the Port. I have spent several years on the Board for a Sailing Club with similar challenges as the Port of Garibaldi, and am confident many of those experiences will translate well.
Ensure financial stability and ensure the Port is not only covering operating expenses but putting money away for ongoing maintenance (such as dredging). This means looking at income sources and their contributions, exploring new sources of income, determining how the Port can help our businesses be more successful, and exploring options for technology to help.
All are critical. The Port's mission to "maximize business and recreational opportunities within its district" says it all. We need the recreational and commercial slips to be active - empty slips don't help bring people to the Port. Recreational use of the Port brings in customers for our Port businesses. I believe we all want a vibrant and active Port.
