I bring a wealth of experience in public service, leadership, and community advocacy to the school board. As a current appointed school board member, I have been actively engaged in decision-making that affects students, teachers, and families. My background includes serving on the Lincoln City Council and as a Housing Authority or Lincoln County Commissioner, giving me a deep understanding of policy, governance, and budget management.
The school district is required to comply with both federal and state education policies to ensure all students receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education. This includes adhering to laws such as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which sets standards for academic achievement and accountability, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which guarantees services and protections for students with disabilities. At the state level, the district must follow Oregon Department of Education (ODE) policies, including curriculum standards, graduation requirements, and equity.
The most urgent issues facing our district include student achievement, educator retention, and fiscal responsibility. I will prioritize strengthening literacy and math programs, expanding career and technical education, and addressing chronic absenteeism and mental health needs. Supporting teachers through competitive wages and professional development is key to retention. I will also ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively, maximizing funding for classrooms and maintaining transparency. By focusing on these priorities, we can create a strong, supportive learning environment that prepares students for success.
