The District has a legal and ethical obligation to comply with both federal and state education policies to ensure that all students receive a free and appropriate public education in a safe, equitable, and inclusive environment. Our District is responsible for translating the myriad federal and state requirements into local policies, staff training, classroom instruction, student services, and oversight mechanisms. Strong relationships with our federal, state, and local officials is important to ensure that the values of our District are reflected in policy making at other levels of government.
The most urgent issue currently facing the West Linn-Wilsonville School District is the significant budget shortfall projected for the upcoming fiscal year. This financial challenge threatens the high-quality educational experience our community expects and deserves. Addressing this shortfall requires immediate, transparent, and collaborative action. This involves sound financial management and decision-making, open and honest community conversations about public education finance, and strong relationships with our representatives in Salem.
