Your Experience/Qualifications Bachelor's of Political Science from Oregon State University. I will bring my communication experience on the Committee for Community Engagement to the school district. I've gained a deep understanding of the needs of citizens and government, and how we might bridge the gap between them. In college I got to see what happens when people from all walks of life learn to communicate effectively with each other. The district needs this kind of unity to succeed. My educational background prepares me with the knowledge of government structures and the most effective ways of navigating the complexities of attaining funding. We are in a time where we need effective communication between the school district and our state/federal government to secure these funds and I have the knowledge and expertise to do it.
The school district is a "body corporate" entity. We can set our own policies and collect our own revenues. We can sue and be sued as well. Failure to comply with state or federal law puts us at risk of being sued.
A priority of mine is to ensure there are plenty of volunteer/internship opportunities for our students. Internship experience not only helps you with your career, it also gives students more opportunity to find out what job best fits their interests.

I will focus on finding new ways to improve how effective the school board is at communication. We are in a period of increased conflict between the interests of the federal government and that of local governments. There already have been cuts to funding with long term ramifications on the budget. As a board member I plan to use my skills and knowledge to find as many sources of funding as possible. Funding we can't get without building strong relationships with other organizations.
