I have spent 31 years as a paraprofessional in this school district at the elementary level. I retired in 2018 and have continued to substitute at the elementary level. I also am a Union Member--OEA and have negotiated a number of employee bargaining contracts. I see what happens in the classrooms and work among both licensed and certified employees. I am active in my local community as a member of the board of the Josephine Community Library Foundation. I know how boards are supposed to function and how to get along with people. I am also capable of standing up for myself and the patrons of the district.
You have to follow state and federal standards and policies even if you don't agree with them. They do come first.
Over crowding in some of our schools will lead to a need for more space, new boundaries and even maybe a new school. It is only fair that students need to have smaller classes so they can get the attention of the teacher and have a great learning environment. We also have a group that is trying to limit access to materials and curriculum that they do not agree with. They need to have some clear thinking board members to stand up for the staff and students.
